I got my taxes done this weekend with the help of TaxAct. For those of you still procrastinating, I recommend it; it's free for Federal, but with a few extra fees for State and for state e-file, I spent about $21 to get all my taxes done and submitted electronically ( Read more... )

so given the 1099 and that you might not have planned for it any better than i did, did you end up owing a small fortune?

also, h&r block hooked me three years ago with a "first one's free" kind of underhanded scheme, but they keep all the information on file from previous years so it's pretty dang easy.

My 1099 was small enough that it didn't make a huge difference. I had to pay an additional $150 in taxes on that income (since tax was not withheld), so that meant my refund was $150 less. Since I only started my salaried job in the middle of last year, my withholding was based on a higher tax bracket, so I have a pretty substantial refund as it is.
