I scanned a page of my sketchbook. These are just some drawings of some of the Night Things I know.

They came out kind of okay.I don't know if I should color them or not. Nogg is all black. He doesn't always have that deer-in-the-headlights look to him, either. Just...usually when I'm around. >_> I thwacked him on the head with a carpetbag ( Read more... )

Why did you hit him with your bag? Mr. Nogg looks kind of charming.

And do these creatures just come and go as they please? Or do they take up permanent residence in your home?

He was trying to get me arrested and sold into slavery at the time. He is kind of cute and fuzzy. I'll admit that.

A little of both. Some of them live in the house, like Ned, and have lived there for decades. They like being in close proximity to humans for some reason, either the life energy we put out, or the food we leave around, or some other reason we can't even comprehend. Other kinds, like bogles and wood-goblins, are mostly just passing through for a season. Christophe is more or less a fixture. He has relatives in the pantry, too. The bogle sometimes shows up in the basement, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually live in the house. He might be hunting down there. Mr. Nogg lives in the Twilight Kingdom. I doubt he ever surfaces at all.

Well. I guess that's a good enough reason as any to go about hitting people with carpetbags. Can't say I wouldn't have done the same.

And your explanation reminds me that I've still yet to test the theory if any manner of faeriekind live in my world. Then again, with what already lives in my castle these days, maybe it'd be a fruitless effort, since they'd be frightened off either way. For some reason, I can't see faeries and others of their kin getting along with demons, the Eldritch, or the undead. Fraternizing with other classes of the supernatural doesn't seem proper.

And Courtney? I'd like to apologize for the last time we spoke. As if it wasn't obvious, I was not in a very stable mental place, and I feel as though I was taking some of out on you at one point. I ask your forgiveness.

Well, you know, you wander into their territory, you have to be prepared for that kind of thing.

It depends on what you mean by faeries. The kind I spend time with most often are very nature-oriented, so, yeah, you might have trouble attracting them, but there are other kinds, and they're all loosely classified as fae. Only I'm not sure you want to attract Unseelie Fae to your castle. Then again, if you already have demons, Eldritch, and undead there, you might want some Unseelie visitors to round out the collection.

Eldritch, though? Really? That's...daring.

Hey, it's okay. I wasn't sure if you were angry at me specifically or just life in general. If I wasn't there for you enough, I'm sorry. I didn't know what to do.

Well, I think he's Eldritch. He's...very old. And probably senile. He's a large sort of fish I rescued from some kind of prison-like sleep. His name's Ostha-Huth ( ... )

Well...that does sound like a pretty Eldritch name, yeah. Um. Are you sure he's senile? The kind of thought patterns mortal humans call normal and sane are light years away from what would be baseline for a being like that, and I know you're not human, but you think more like one than like a Lovecraftian entity. So your perception might not be wholly accurate. No offense meant; I don't know anyone in the Nexus who I would trust to be both completely objective and knowledgeable about that sort of being anyway. Djehuty and Alec Holland certainly know plenty about them, but I don't think they like them much ( ... )

Either senile, or cobwebbed still by his sleep. It was an effort for Ostha to remember his own name when he first woke up ( ... )

Wow. That must be amazing, to be in touch with that much...existence. I sometimes feel like I'm losing myself in Skarrow, when I visit him, and he's only two or three hundred years old.

Maybe that's what you really have to be on your guard for. Not that he'd necessarily harm you, but that you'd harm yourself on him because he's so big. Gods are like that, whether they're dark or light or in-between.

I don't think of you as a monster, Ramon. I do think of you as dangerous, because you are, but not a monster. Maybe I haven't seen you at your worst, though.

An undead spider person? That actually sounds kind of cool. I'm kind of creeped out by spiders, but they're okay from a distance. I just don't want them on me.

The Nuckelavee was great. I miss it sometimes. If I could relive one LOL for a day, that would be it. I never got to wreck a ship.

Maybe. Maybe the facade is you, too? Or part of it, at least.

That really is it. The one word that comes to mind when I think of, am around, or am speaking to Ostha is 'vast'. He's like the ocean itself in many ways; enormous, mysterious, and potentially deadly due to those two prior traits ( ... )

I'd really like to hear about that journey sometime. Journeys and quests are important. But you've had a lot of quests, I think, so it's no wonder if you get a little tired and frustrated sometimes.

Pssh, I'm not sweet, I'm a sullen teenager. I mean it, though. And I'll always try to understand, whatever happens to you or whatever you do.

That's sad. He sounds kind of shell-shocked. I guess suddenly becoming undead will do that to a person. If he needs anything, let me know?

*lock*
Yeah. I know they say you can't change people, and I guess you can't, completely, but being cared about does make a difference. It does something to a person. In a good way, I mean.

Perhaps I should write it down. A lot of it was, well, surreal. Very dreamlike qualities throughout. Transcribing it seems a good idea, as dreams tend to fade or their details change over time. And since I've been in the process of writing a great deal about my experiences anyhow...

The same goes for you, you realize. There's little I wouldn't do for you, Courtney, and even less still that you could do that would drive me away from you. You're a valuable and beloved friend to me, no matter how sullen you get. And I'll change the subject now before I embarrass you too much with my sappiness ( ... )

Yes, definitely write it down. You may want to remember it in full detail later ( ... )

Hahaha, aww, I've gone and embarrassed you anyways. But si, you've been there for me as well. I've not forgotten either how you gave your magical aide when Umbrella had me, and how you stayed my friend during the whole ordeal with my arrest and whatnot. AND how you were so gracious to take in the Hands around that same time. You're a good friend, Courtney ( ... )

The Hands were, like, the best houseguests ever. They're quiet and neat and we knew if anyone broke into the place it would be the last thing they ever did.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I always figured it was disorienting, finding yourself in a new place, but I never thought about worrying you might wake up from it. It's different for me, maybe, because I found the Nexus sort of deliberately.

No problem. Can I be flattered I get to hear about them first? Good luck introducing her.

I can't speak for Hips or your other friends, but I don't feel any pressure. Anyway, even if I did, you're worth the effort. That came out kind of mushy, but you know what I mean.
