Another Year in Moominvalley

I think that this should be a story in five to seven chapters. Rather short in other words. Also, this is the first time I'm trying to write a fanfic one can read to children. I'm trying to use a simple language wihout dumbing it down. Let me know, please, if it works or not ( Read more... )

I thought it was Grandpa Grumpy, but I'll change that to Grandpa Grumble. Thanks for catching that. In Swedish he's called Onkelskruttet. Onkel stands for uncle, and is a very old-fashioned word. Skrutt is a word that denote something old and/or broken and/tired. My granmother E used to say that she felt like "skrutt" when she was feeling tired and old.
Applecore tranlates as äppelskrutt. The later part of that word is skrutt. It's that look and that feel. Gnawed-down, not much use left in one, and old, and cast away.

So my own littleral translation would be Uncle Old-and-Broken.

Grandpa Grumble sounds much more jolly.

Tell Kid A that I'm planning the next chapter. It's about when they woke up in sprinng and Snufkin came back, and also what one finds on the beach after the winter's storms.

I'd like on-the-fly beta-reading very much, if that's not too much trouble for you.

Tove Jansson belonged to the Swedish-speaking minority of Finland, so she wrote her books in Swedish. They got translated into Finnish later. Her mother was from Sweden, but moved to Finland when she married Tove Jansson's father, who belonged to the minority mentioned above.

It feels strange to write fanfiction in English for a book one only have read in Swedish ;D
