So much blood!

It's funny how even the smallest of wounds can gore up your home, isn't it? I seriously can't remember the last time I encountered an entire puddle of my own blood. However, in future reference, I can say that it was last night.

Okay, here's what happened...

There are a pair of large sheets of plexiglass in my possession, both of which were never given the attention regarding safety, so their edges are sharp and intact. I am also in the practice of being oblivious to them when they are not put away. Surely you can see where this is going: I kicked one and managed to cleave one of my toes-which is now sporting a rather large and fashionable flap of skin.

I bandaged the wound up and went about my afternoon with little care of it. At the apex of my wakeful day, I removed the bandage and proceeded with my shower. The wound was fairly well healed-or so I thought-so when I finished my bathing practices I purposefully neglected to re-bandage it and continued on with the few last tasks before I went to bed, of which included (and in order): preparing my clothes for tomorrow, putting any dirty dishes in the sink, getting fresh water for the cats, and finally brushing my teeth.

Would you care to guess at which point in that list did I realize that I was still bleeding? That's right! I noticed as I was brushing my teeth. Now, given the placement of bloody trail, I can ascertain that it started the principle bleeding as I was filling the cat's water bowl, and aggressively increased in blood flow as I replaced the bowl and began brushing my teeth.

Now at this point, all but my small nightstand lamp and the bathroom lights were on, and given the relative darkness, who could really say when I would have noticed the little pools of life fluid on the floor? Thankfully, Mochi (my grey tabby) was very enthusiastically sniffing something on the floor, so I came over to investigate as I brushed my teeth-I figured it was an insect she was stalking.

So as I approached her, I realized it wasn't a bug at all and was, in fact, a large drop of blood about half-inch in diameter. It was at the precise moment that I recognized that it was my blood that Mochi then decided to partake in it. I flipped out, because my cat is eating a puddle of me on the floor, but I still had a toothbrush in my mouth to deal with and turned around to see a small puddle of blood in front of the sink where I had been standing, along with a pair of smaller spots in between. Needless to say, there were a lot of spots between my bathroom and kitchen and it took a good 10 minutes to clean them up given Mochi's decided interest in each of them delayed my efforts a bit.

With any luck, the wound is healed today so I won't require stitches, and hopefully my cat's taste for my blood was short-lived and will desist immediately. As a precaution, I made sure to feed her a little extra this morning.

ouch, cats
