how dare they try to end this beauty

So, I think 3 or maybe 4 years after recieving the box set as a present, I finally watched all 14 episodes of Firefly.

Huh. Good, ain't it.

I realise it's a remarkably ancient debate, but I can't think why the show got cancelled. Admittedly Objects In Space was imo by far the best episode, but that's why you need to give these things time to get ( Read more... )

knitting is not my strong point, firefly, icons, en-route to my own fashion house, planet eastenders, summer glau, knitting, also i can kill you with my icons, bad cockney accents

It got canceled because Fox is a bunch of jerks. Just like Stella got canceled because Comedy Central is a bunch of jerks. All issues of shows-I-like-being-canceled are automatically reduced to playground politics in my mind. >>

And I expected Miranda to be one of Uranus' moons, because they're named for Shakespearean characters and names are an easy touchstone for me. >> And glancing over at the wiki, one of Uranus' moons actually is called Miranda? Weird and etc.

Good job with the knitting! Once you've made a terrible scarf, you're well on your way to lumpy-looking sweaters. ♥

Well, then we should throw rocks at them.

I thought Miranda might be a clever clever reference to 'O brave new world that has such people in't' while IRONY being our old world that had reavers in it. Uranus is where I get playground level, I'm afraid.

Woohoo. But what if I only get half way through the terrible scarf before giving up?

And kick sand in their eyes?

That would be clever. I wish I had useful commentary to add in reply.

Then you will be exactly the kind of knitter I am. >> I started a scarf last Christmas that'd actually be kind of pretty if I actually ever finished it.

We'll do that first. Then they won't be able to see where the rocks are coming from. But, it was a really good show! [Also I had flashbacks of your Simon, haha awww]

Sadly Joss Whedon can only dream of being as clever as me.

Mine is full of dropped stitches and mysterious extra stitches. I did make a scarf for my cat, accidentally. Eventually I'll upload the pictures.

See, it wasn't as sad for me the first time because I wasn't invested. And Wash was srsly under-represented in the movie, but was easily my favourite character in the series. So I was hoping the big spikey bit might have been my imagination, sigh but no.

I was all Whedoned out by the time Firefly came around. After being absorbed by Buffy from the first season, the last season (and the second to last season of Angel) really underwhelmed me, and I wasn't expecting anything new from Firefly. Which is a shame, as it's much fresher and less forced humour and verbal tics than Buffy became.

He has a new show starting soon, Dollshouse.

Well yes. Even the first time I watched the movie that bit got me. But, this is the Whedonverse. No happy couples allowed. And I really liked the movie villain. I also liked Early the bounty hunter - he was so odd that for a while I thought he might have come from River's assassin school. Maybe he did.

I have only seen one episode of Dr. Horrible. You can yell at me now. And Dollshouse has Eliza Dushku in it, who tends to annoy me, but also Amy Acker, who I like. It's not getting great hype, but I guess we'll see. I was mainly caught by the title.

The movie didn't surprise me. There were things that I didn't expect going into it, but to me it telegraphed several of the developments ahead of time. I still loved it (obviously).

Obviouly it didn't surprise me... as I'd already seen it. But yeah, there wasn't much that was super shocking - that's why I expected Miranda to be earth-that-was to make things more powerful, I think. But it was good.

♥ I more or less expected Miranda to be what it was. Not to say that I was expecting a planet of antidepressants gone horribly wrong, but I did expect a well-covered-up outpost. I suppose that was one of the weaknesses of the movie, that it never took that leap from twists you would expect based on the clues Whedon laid out.

I would have liked more of the gaps from the series filled in, too. Book's backstory before he got killed maybe, and I hear Inara was dying. Maybe they could have killed her instead of wash (out of all of them, she is the one that kind of bored me >>). I would have liked one more film, maybe, to round some things off.

There is a pretty cool convention here in october called Hallowhedon XD
