i used to try to avoid things until they just didn't bother me. this never worked very well for me. there are still a few things that i avoid from years and years ago that i still find i'm holding onto, because i never got around to facing them.
i'm not sure if this applies to what you're dealing with at all, but when something hurts or reminds me of something i don't want to think about, i act like it doesn't bother me. i pretend it's nothing special. it doesn't work at all at first, but gradually whatever it was loses any special connotations it once had, and after a little while, it hurts a lot less, and i can move on.
whatever shit happened in your past, it's part of what made you who you are today. and there's nothing wrong with that at all. life's a crazy journey, and sometimes it just is what it is. if you need to talk, my phone's always on. i love you<3
