Summary: Artie falls on the ice again in New York.

I was on the ground. I looked around and for a long moment, I had no idea where I was or how I’d gotten there. From my line of sight, all I could see was a long trail of red, surrounded by ice and concrete. It didn’t take too long to piece together what had happened. It wasn’t the first time. The thing that bothered me was that I still couldn’t remember the fall itself. I reached up to my head, but it didn’t hurt at all.

As I pulled my hand away, I realized it was dry, but I found the source of the blood. There was a huge, deep cut all the way from my elbow to halfway to my wrist. I felt myself growing dizzy again; I must have blacked out from pain. I sighed. Why couldn’t anyone take the time to salt their sidewalks in this city? Sometimes it really seemed like people in Brooklyn just didn’t care about anyone besides themselves.

I leaned back, my breath coming out in a thick cloud of mist. I didn’t want to get up, but I didn’t want to wait for help. In this crazy city, I didn’t know how long it would be before someone would actually stop for me. I didn’t have to look up at the wheelchair next to me to know they would stop. People might be chilly in the big apple, but they aren’t totally cold hearted. Maybe I’m naive, but I like to think there are people that still care. Still, I didn’t want their help.

I glanced at my arm again. The blood seemed to have slowed, but it still looked really bad. I knew I would need stitches. I had no idea how I would get to the hospital, there weren’t any direct routes. I would worry about that in a minute. First things first. I felt dizzy again. I tried to pull myself off the ground. It took a couple tries before I succeeded and not before leaving a trail of bright red blood everywhere.

I just shook my head, I knew I must look terrible. I just ground in and started heading across town. I had no choice but to head to the hospital.
