"you look amazing." My sister Molly sighed, looking up at me from her perch on my bed.

"Do you really think so?" I was distracted, studying my red dress in the mirror. I really hadn't been sure if the sleeveless, floor length dress would look alright, but at least it fit well enough. I was never one for dressing up in the first place, how could I expect to feel comfortable? I refused to put on high heels though, I found a dressy pair of flats and hoped it would be ok.

My sister was nodding and our eyes meet in the mirror. "Yes, you really look great." I had to admit, sometimes it was nice to live with a hopeless romantic. it came in handy when you were clueless like me. "I can't wait to go to my prom," she sighed.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang and I took a deep breath. "Well, it's now or never." I was talking mostly to myself.

Now I heard talking by the front door. "Jordan!" My dad called up the stairs and I knew I had to go down.

I went out onto the landing and started down the stairs like in a million different movies. Brian turned towards me and I let out a gasp despite myself. He looked so different in his nice suit and tie, and without his sunglasses for once. He was smiling up at me shyly. "Hey," he finally said as i made my way next to him. We were quiet for a long moment until he finally held up a box with a corsage in it. "This is for you." He easily opened the box and I held out my wrist so he could slip it in me. It was all too easy.

My mom made us take a picture before we could go outside. I sighed once we got out onto the porch into the fresh air and shook my head at the limo waiting for us. "Really Brian, you didn't have to do this."

"How else are we gonna get there?" He smiled and placed his hand on my back softly. I led us to limo and we climbed in. Most of my friends were all going together, so it felt a little weird to be alone in the back of car with just him.

"Why did you want to go out with me?" I asked him and instantly regretted it. That's just not the type of thing you're supposed to ask, ever.

"Jordan, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me. You appreciate me like no one else can."

I had to smile. "I don't care what anyone says, you're amazing." I was being completely honest.

We got lost in each other's worlds for the whole ride. All too soon, we were at the dance. The gym was decorated like every dance in every movie, but I had to admit it was nice to be traditional sometimes. Brian and I stood to the side at first, but he surprised me by asking to dance. "We didn't come here to stand around," he chuckled.

I really wasn't surprised that he turned out to be such a good dancer. It was like he just felt the movements in his bones and didn't have any distractions. I made sure we didn't bump into anyone on the crowded dance floor. We stayed close for a couple of songs until the DJ made an announcement. "I've just had a request for a very special couple out there. Brian and Jordan, this one's for you."

My mouth opened wide. I thought Brian must have done it to surprise me, but suddenly I got chills when I heard the lyrics of the song. It was a Temptations song that I'd never heard before. "I wanna love I can see/ That's the only kind that means a thing to me."

Brian froze for a long moment and I could feel his grip tighten anxiously. And I thought I could hear people laughing all around us. Finally, Brian shook his head and seemed to relax a little. "If you wanna leave now, I would understand," he muttered.

I just stood firm, completely determined. "No way. Listen to the words. He wants a real love. That's us. 'Actions speak louder than words.' Let's keep dancing and show them."

"I couldn't agree more," Brian was beaming as we took the dance floor by storm.
