Summary: The Queen of England visits Brooklyn.
Neil flipped closed his old fashioned cell phone. He never saw the need to get a smartphone. He shook his head and looked over at his friend George. “OK, they’re on their way. We have to make sure everything is perfect.”
George sighed and looked around the crowded auditorium. “Well, if it’s not perfect, it’s too late. Someone just said they heard sirens outside.”
“That must be the motorcade. I can’t believe the Queen of England is here in Brooklyn.”
“Believe it!” George beamed. He was excited and rightfully so. He had planned and arranged this whole event. The Queen had been scheduled to do events throughout New York, but no one thought she would ever come to this remote community. George had to use every connection he had and pull every string he could think of, but he had made it happen. The leader of the entire civilized world would be coming into this room at any moment.
Neil smiled as his eyes followed George’s around the room. He saw delegates from as far away as Australia, India and all the other British colonies. He was proud to be a citizen of such a powerful and widespread empire.
Suddenly, someone pushed open the back doors of the auditorium. It was a royal guard, dressed in a pristine uniform. He blew a horn and a hush instantly fell over the crowd. The guard came to attention and called, “May I present her majesty, the Queen of England!”
The crowd rose to their feet as the royal party entered the room. It was the best moment of Neil’s life.
