Summary: Artie moves to LA. A(nother) series of fics based on the "Fingertips" suite by TMBG.
The airport terminal might as well be a wind tunnel, as far as you're concerned. There's no breeze, but it feels like the long corridor might as well be blowing you to a different world.
You decided to sell most of the stuff that you accumulated over the past 5 years in New York. Everything that's left fit into two checked bags. It wouldn't be worth it to take your furniture and you were never a fan of keeping a lot of junk around anyway. Besides, you know you'll need to buy a car. You've heard people drive to get across the street in LA. It's not something you're looking forward to.
You focus on finding your gate. You're getting some looks as you roll through the crowded terminal, but at least the TSA agents let you keep your own chair until you board. The good thing about airports is that you can get special accommodations if you want them, but there's no safety requirements to do so.
You arrive at the gate just as they announce priority boarding. You go up to the agent and pull your boarding pass out of your breast pocket. She smiles kindly as she scans the pass. "Someone will meet you at the end of the jet bridge. Have a nice day."
You've heard this every time you've traveled for the past dozen years. You push down the steep ramp leading to the plane. There's already an agent waiting in the small space next to the plane when you get there. He doesn't say anything at first and you don't mind the silence. You start to transfer to the airplane chair before he can ask if you need assistance. Once you're settled, you start giving him directions to fold your chair. You wish you had a friend here who knew how to do it.
The agent passes your chair down to be gate checked and he indicates that he's going to push you onto the plane. You just nod. As you pass through the space between the Jetway and the plane, you hear a sudden breeze from outside. Here goes nothing you think. You're about to ride that breeze across the country, hoping for the best, no idea what might be on the other side.
