Beautiful duck

On Wednesday I left work a little early because I was recovering from being sick the day before. I thought I'd take a walk by the river but I was too tired to walk so I just sat on a bench, over where the ducks and geese congregate. I didn't bring my camera with me because, silly me, I assumed it would just be the usual assortment of waterfowl ( Read more... )

Oooo! Wood ducks are beautiful!

I never see anything amazing when I have a camera! OR, on the RARE occasion when I do have it, I can't get the camera out of the case, turned on, de-lens capped, and focused in time. OR, I do all that, but just as I click - it leaves, stops doing the amazing thing or turns its back... and it's digital so ... nothing. I have a bunch of pictures that would have commentary like, "Seconds before I shot this photo of the ripples in the lake, a pair of loons were doing the never yet photographed 'midnight sun mating dance' in this very spot!"

But usually it is, "This is the top of Aidan's head, just after he smiled with a face adorably covered in icecream!" I keep threatening to make an album of "top of the head/turned back" photos with "journaling" under each...

I have a lot of photos like that. Especially if I'm trying to photograph birds. They just don't hold still. Plus my camera has a small delay while it focuses itself, and given that I tend to photograph animals and small children...well you know what happens! :) We should start photographing flowers instead. They are willing to hold still as long as the wind isn't blowing. :)

I do take a lot of photos of flowers - I just didn't think of them as an end result, but rather a study for painting - I went back and looked at them and some aren't bad! I will have to start thinking of them as "art!"

Awesome! I LOVE ducks... and pretty much all waterfowl. At least you have the picture in your memory, pretty cool!

Yes, and at least now I know what kind of duck it is, in case I ever see another one! :)
