It's a hawk of some sort, I think. I'm going by the markings on its back (I'm taking those white spots to be part of the feathers, not snow) and the size.
What kind of hawk, though, is another story. Red tails are the most common around here, but there are a couple others who show up around this time of year.
We live in the same town, and yes there is a hawk hereabouts. S/he likes my yard, as I feed the birds and squirrels, which provides a smorgasbord for the hawk. :-< Such is life in the wild: eat or be eaten.
COOL photos. My vote is hawk as well. I'm basing it on size and coloring. Say hi to it for me if you see it again ....it's weird, but everytime i see a hawk I say "Hi John" because hawks remind me of John Denver (The Eagle and the Hawk song was my favorite JD as a teen). I saw one the day he died and said hi to it in that manner out of nowhere.

My vote is hawk as well. I'm basing it on size and coloring.
