I love my new camera!

I'd planned to be at one of urbpan's nature walks this morning - even set my alarm and got up early but I was moving slowly...and just needed to relax and take my time so I didn't make it. As a consolation prize, I walked over to Spy Pond in the morning to try out my new camera.

Lovely photos. I think the gray bird is a gray catbird.

You are correct about the bird identification! urbpan who commented right below your comment even provided a link with more info about that particular bird. :-)

It looks like you had a nice nature walk any way! And that new camera is really working out for you; should bring you lots of fun.

Your songbird is a gray catbird. The duck is a wild/domestic hybrid; One of his recent ancestors was a white farm duck. As to why the cygnet is swimming with its foot up like that, that's anyone's guess.

It was very nice, though it would have been fun to be on your walk. I'm glad I got to see the photos anyway. Thank you for the bird identification. And how interesting about that duck! :-)

Great photos! What kind of camera is it again?

The wing/foot coming out of its' side doesn't look normal. I wonder why it is that way...

My new camera is a Canon PowerShot A590IS. I chose it because it has more optical zoom than my previous canon, while also managing to be smaller and lighter in weight. Plus it has an optical viewfinder, which is important to me. (A feature that seems to be getting phased out of many of the cheaper digital cameras.) All that for a lot less money than I spent on my first digital camera 5 years ago!

Yes, the wing/foot on the cygnet looked a bit odd.

Great pictures, especially the zoomed one of the gray bird. It's amazing, your camera even got the lichen on the tree!

I think that is the swan's leg, it looks to me like he is sort of listing to one side. Was he having a hard time swimming?

I'm so excited about this camera's zoom capabilities! I didn't expect it to be that good, considering its price.

The swan seemed to be swimming just fine, despite its odd little leg.

I love your camera. That does not look like any chickadee that I have ever seen... They normally have more white on them. To accent the "cap".
I have never seen a baby swan! I love your nature pics! Your camera is amazing!

You're right - it's not a chickadee. It was identified correctly in the comments (by people who know much more about birds than me) as a "grey catbird."

Digital camera technology has come a long way since I bought my first one. And this cost about half of what I spent 5 years ago. Amazing!

Kewl! i have never seen a Grey catbird before this.

I read it has a zoom feature. Very cool. Some of the newer cameras have lots of awesome special affects. This is really remarkable. I love gadgets! Especially techie ones. *grins*

My old camera had a zoom feature too, but this one has considerably more zoom.

I could have bought a camera with even more zoom than this one, in a similar price range, but it would have weighed more. I needed a camera that was as light weight as possible because I'm always in pain and the more I'm carrying the worse it is. So I was amazed this camera could do as much as it does. And I only really know and understand about 10% of its features. (I've looked through the entire manual but much of it doesn't mean much to me because I don't know much about cameras. ISO and aperature and all the rest of the terminology. :)
