Mark and Maureen don't have AIDS in the stage version. In one song, Mark shows up at the Life Support meeting and stammers out awkwardly because he's the only one not infected.
Really? I know about that part, but I assumed it was him being shy. I thought that at the beginning he mentions that Maurine calls them up and says that both of them have AIDS, sometime after she broke up with him. If I heard that wrong, please excuse that bit. Besides, why would Roger and Mark sing about dying in America if only one of them was dying?
Actually, it's April (Roger's gf) who leaves a note saying that they both have AIDS before killing herself in the bathroom. I think the whole "dying in America" thing was for Roger, or for all of the Bohemians in general, in that their way of life was being killed by consumerism and all that jazz.
Yea, about to say, Mark and Maureen don't have AIDS... if they did, then Joanne would have AIDS too, and then the movie would just be one big happy AIDSfest. I really liked how they did One Song Glory and Without You (except, the Without You scene revolved around Mimi, but Roger sings in the song also
