Laptop power port

I've managed to break the recharge and AC plug power connection to my laptop. Whats the best way to fix it? Is it safe to let alan and a Soldering Iron near it?

Is it one of the cables which is broken? If so then you should probabyl just try to get a replacement. If it is something inside the laptop itself then I wouldn't try fixing it unless I was confident. (By asking on LJ it sounds like you aren't confident).

if you can send us the spec (or a scan of the broken device if it has an informative label) then maybe someone here can look for one at a computer fair, or boot sale, or their spare parts cupboard.

The cable is fine. Its the outlet that allows you to plug it into the machine. Wonderwiz thinks it has unsoldered itself from the connections inside that lead it to the powerpack setup. In otherwords - full take apart issue. The problem being is there is no one in Soton who will do it proffessionally!
