Pope news...

Okay, so there were two articles on my Google News page that caught my eye this morning.

One was concerned with the idea that the pusuit of wealth is pointless. This, of course, is in response the "financial crisis" or whatever the hell it's called this week that many people seem to be bitching about. I actually agree with his statements as I think this financial crisis is a result of people wanting much more than they actually need. Guide to surviving financial crisis:
1) Quit buying shit you don't need.
2) Quit spending money you don't have (loans, credit cards, etc...).
3) Rent a home instead of buying one.
4) Learn to manage what you do have efficiently.
Unfortunately, like many Americans, I'm guilty of many of these (except the renting part I guess). However, I honestly believe if people would curb their spending habits, this wouldn't be as big of a crisis as it has apparently become. I'm no economist, but I am of the opinion that you don't need a lot of shit to be happy.
The other article that stood out was the one about the Bible reading marathon. Apparently, starting October 11th, the entire Bible will be read from beginning to end on TV by various individuals. Now the thing I found odd about this is that this event comes right after the month of Ramadan, where one of the traditions is for people to read the entire Qur'an before the month is over!
Since I never actually read The Qur'an before, I actually tried (unsuccessfully) to read the whole thing last month. Even though I didn't finish during Ramadan, I'm still reading and plan to finish it soon.
Book review forthcoming. :)
