All you need to know about my trip back to Montreal

All you need to know about my trip back to Montreal on Monday: my route was St. John's -> Halifax -> Montreal, and the last time I saw my luggage was Monday afternoon in Toronto. I guess the fog made it hard to see my bag.

Not so much, no. Air Canada's "WhereTF's my luggage, bitch?" number is busy, which I guess tells me what I should expect for getting my stuff back soon.

It is always busy. I only get any kind of information out of WorldTracer's web site.

Oh, cool, I didn't know that site existed.

Except it's saying "We are sorry we cannot process your request at this time. Please try again later."

West Jet, or Air Canuckistan? thebabynancy January 9 2008, 19:09:09 UTC
o_O

Why would your luggage be in the T-Dot? And how did you see it in the T-Dot if you never touched down in the T-Dot? Did I miss something? *scans post*

See, that's why it's all you need to know, you can piece it together from there. Other compelling questions to ask: even though I was in Toronto (rerouted due to fog in Montreal when we went to land, FYI), why did I even see my luggage at all in the middle of my trip?

Craziness.

Oh, and for the record, it was Air Canada, as WestJet has a pretty crappy schedule out of St. John's (i.e. I'd always be going through Toronto, instead of just when we can't land in Montreal).

Sometimes pants get that feeling like they have to get out on their own. For reference, see Travelling Pants.

True. It was a bit of a miscalculation on their part, though; if they could have arranged to be here today, they'd have much better odds of freedom from catching the stiff wind, instead of being trapped in a suitcase.

Great. Now I have the song Windy in my head, but it goes:

Who's peekin' out from under a stairway
Calling a name that's lighter than air
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows my pants are Windy

I think you should know that I was out walking the dog just now and came across an actual pair of pants draped over someone's fence. I asked them if they belonged to you, but they weren't talking.

A friend was supposed to fly out of St. John's on Dec 31st, but her flight was cancelled due to snow. Air Canada told her they wouldn't be able to fly her back to Montreal until... two weeks later. After many phone calls to her MHA and CBC Radio, she managed to get back late last week. But still... what the fuck?

At least she didn't lose her luggage, though.

Yeah, there were a lot of news stories when I got home about people being stranded in Halifax and being told that they might get to St. John's sometime in the new year. There were a lot of people doing crazy things to get home.

Wise people would be best to avoid trying to fly to Newfoundland around Christmastime. The weather is often vile, and the flights are all insanely packed so there's zero slack available to make up for any disruptions.

On the other hand, mere impossibility isn't going to stop a Newfoundlander from going back home for the holidays.

Note how I limited my advice to wise people. Newfoundlanders will do what they do regardless. I haven't missed a Christmas at home yet, and this is #11 since I left.
