At heart you're an engineer, but when it's called for you are what you need to be. I think a lot of people are like that.

Doesn't mean I'm happy when I'm forced to step out of my little box and become something I'd rather not be, make decisions I'd rather not make, follow orders I might not want to follow.

Sometimes I wish I wasn't the leader. I mean, it's ridiculous when you consider how many people outrank me, but I'm always the first person my people look to. It's frightening to think they'd more readily follow an order from me than from someone who outranks me.

I do what I have to do. Working in a team means you don't pick and choose what you want to do and what you don't want to do. Aside from one instance of losing my head in a state of frenzied self-righteousness, I think I've got that part down.

I guess having been both a member of a team and a leader of my own team (both at the same time), I sort of understand better than some people might.

Thanks for the compliment.

From what I hear, the fleet won't survive much longer if they don't get more people like us.

At least I'm in the best company with you around, Sam.

Thank you, sir. I appreciate it.

I'm hoping that means confidence has been restored in my ability to manage all of my people.
