Day 16. A song that you used to love but now hateTry as I might, nothing jumps out at me here. I listened to that album an awful lot at the time--my college roommate was a huge XTC fan--but not much since. Even so, I had at most middling affection for "Peter Pumpkinhead". For me, the standout songs were "Dear Madam Barnum", "Crocodile", and "Then She Appeared".
And I agree that it might as well've been the final XTC album, since Dave Gregory left during the recording of Apple Venus, effectively removing the last brake on it turning into a complete monster Andy Partridge wankfest. This same college roommate tried to get me interested in it, but I found it unlistenable. "Stupidly Happy" later turned up in heavy rotation on the local mass-alt station, and it was like someone going out of their way to make me hate myself for ever liking them.

I don't hate this song, but then I never loved it. It's pretty forgettable. I did, however, hate a few songs from this album, which was a new, uncomfortable feeling for me. I had been indifferent to some XTC, but never hated any songs (except maybe Cynical Days) before Nonsuch came out.
I hated: The Smartest Monkeys, War Dance, Bungalow.
Oops. All Colin.
