Bilis looked out the window and double-checked his readings before turning to look back into the bedroom of the tiny flat he had rented.  "The animal is dead.  Even in their weakened and confused state the defenders of the Rift destroyed it.   It would be wise to avoid them until my Lord has recovered from his journey.

"But the deception worked.  Their Rift Manipulator is so powerful and so unfocused that I was able to divert some of the energy to open my Lord's prison.  Their instruments are too crude to detect the subtle fluction amidst all the temporal-spatial static they generated, and they'll be busy cleaning up everything else that washed through."

The figured on the bed stirred weakly and uttered a whispered, "Good."  It pained Bilis to see how his Lord's captivity had debilitated him.  His skin should not look so grey and loose.  His eyes should not look so dull.
"If my Lord agrees, I think it would be best if I kept a low profile for now.  It would not be wise to draw their attention  while my Lord recuperates.  After he has regained his strength, he can crush Torchwood with his slightest breath before stripping the Earth of all life and ripping it from it's sun.  But for now..."

"My safety is paramount.  Yes.  Make no further moves until I am stronger."

Bilis crossed his wrists and bowed.  "As you command, Master."

"And when I am well I shall grind this wretched rock into powder for what they have dared to do to me."

"Very good, Master."  Bilis smiled to himself.  It was good to hear his God talking like his old self again.  "There are things I must attend to now.  If I may be permitted?"

"Yes, yes, see to them."  Bilis bowed again and moved toward the door.  He turned back when the whispered voice said his name.

"Yes, Master?"

The figure  hesitated for a moment, as if not sure what to say.  "You have been a faithful servant of the Dark One, Bilis."

Bilis was stunned.  Praise was unheard of in his Master's service.  "I am honored, Lord Sutekh."

Author's Note:  Sutekh is from the Fourth Doctor's The Pyramids of Mars, considered by many to be the finest Classic Who story.
