Rock Band an Unbaised Review

May 19, 2009 18:34

Let me just preface this by saying that I don’t know which band should have won. Let me also preface this by saying I have at least one acquaintance in four out the six total bands and have no gripes with them personally to bias my opinion of them outside of rockband ( Read more... )

Yeah, I totally realized that I was totally failing on Tom Sawyer where I normally hit 95% perfectly and 100% without issue. I chock it up to the fact that I was singing most of the other songs. Especially Master Exploder with Caleb, if only because I love the song and just saw the movie.

I reccomend something called "voice ease" or "voiceies", I'm not sure but it helps extened your voice for things like long concerts, I've been told it's availible here in Madison. It doesn't improve your voice, it just makes it stick around longer.

I should also mention that nobody on Schnauzer Rocket was unhappy with the outcome. We thought that the garage group we faced in the first round didn't get as many stars as they should have, but that's a judge's issue. They knew Rockin' Me only a little worse than I knew Chop Suey. Oh well. I hope they come back.

I've decided I need to sing all the time and I've been wasting my life not doing so.

the next time I'm stage, there will be no failure.

Scanner Dan's Manly Band didn't fail out of anything; Kyle was moving around so much that he stepped on his controller - twice. Personally, I think that they deserved to win because they ate "Spoonman" alive and managed to get 5 stars on it with something like 30 seconds to go. Collector's Edition and Schauzer Rocket each only got 3 stars on our final random songs. They were prepared, we weren't. That's the difference.

another reason I feel I was slighted by luck: pinball wizard is the only song in the game they could've picked I was unprepared for. I can knock spoonman out of the park, it was in the running for our main song before we settled on more pop stuff.

argh! I am angry about what amounts to a roll of the dice! I will never let this happen again.

Dude, someone has to say this and obviously your friends haven't or they wouldn't have let you do Aqualung. From what I saw in the two rounds of the Rock Band competition and karaoke at Gemma's going-away party, your ability to match pitch is hit or miss at best. While pitch matching is hardly the only thing that makes a good singer, it is a minimum requirement.

Don't get me wrong; you have fantastic stage presence. But really, you should have been behind a guitar in this thing. There's a reason we chose Nick as our front man and not, say, Jimi. While his voice did start to crash at the end, he realized it and was trying to compensate.

If you want to get better at matching pitch, come to choir. Honestly. We will help and we love having new people. The actual guitarist for Scanner Dan's Manly Band (who would have much rather been performing and not puking all night) is the conductor and is very good at coaching folks through their vocal troubles.

Me and Colin didn't have a problem with Zac's singing. Although I'm no expert, I think Colin does have some authority to judge someone's singing ability.
