Hope Americans had a lovely 4th of July!

All the Way to the Bottom of the Wishing Well
Shaitanah | Teen | Future!fic
Ben is off to do some soul-searching. And some people-searching. And to kill some bad things along the way. [spoilers for 6x21]
There's been quite a bit of fic dealing with Lisa post-6x21, but this is a fantastic take on what forgetting(and remembering) does to Ben, and how Dean's choices pushed him into the life he was trying to protect them from.
Slow Burnguardian_chaos | PG-13 | mentions of injuries, some blood
The war is taking its toll on Castiel, and moments of peace are hard to find when he spends half his time bleeding.
Achey and simple, this small fic offers a perfect look at Castiel fighting his losing war.
Leave Behind The Renegadescityofmist | PG-13
Dean's descent into pessimism starts a long time before Point of No Return; Castiel tries, unsuccessfully, to stop it. Takes place at some point between The Song Remains the Same and Dark Side of the Moon.
Dean losing hope in the world while Castiel is realizing just why humanity is worth saving is a beautifully painful juxtaposition, and the twisting and flipping of their positions is as skillfully done as in canon(or better).
Bloody Thingsscourgeofeurope | PG-13 | Warnings or other notes.
Sam and Sam's head and Dean.
Sam's headspace is wonderfully crafted and starkly real in the confusion of it all. The author carefully peels back layers of events as we slowly begin to see more of the whole picture, and it gives everything a sense of weighty realness.
And We Laughed Until We Cried
tawg | Teen
Dean is trying to juggle a family and the family business, Sam isn't exactly back to normal, and it looks like the angels have found a new way to keep busy now the apocalypse is canceled. And Dean has no idea what is up with Cas these days, or if he can forgive him... Non-specific, season 6 AU fic.
This fic is so gorgeously wrought and well thought out, with a wonderful gut-punch reveal at the end. And then, you'll want to read it again, because it is that spectacular.
The Good Son
onthewaters | Teen
The Archangel Michael takes his substitute vessel and things do not go according to plan. Spoilers also for Season Six.
Michael's POV is fantastic, especially in the last section. The show has already drawn the parallels between the Winchesters and the Archangels, and in this story, Michael's motivations are painfully similar to Dean's.
The Greatest Man I Never Knew icanhazpie | R | Violence, language, character death
Ben convinces Dean he didn't need to be perfect. It was enough that he was Dean.
Of all the fics speculating Lisa and Ben's future post 6x21, this is one of the best I've read. The style is very approachable and easily and perfectly portrays everyone from Ben to Dean to Sam to Lisa.
Human Kindnesschiiyo86 | PG
Who are those strangers who moved in across the street?
A sweet and very real feeling outsider POV fic that will leave you with a smile
Ouruborosgedry | PG | Individual and group therapy provided to the Winchesters by a person without a professional license. Like the Doctor at the back of the market. Written prior to most of Season 6 airing.
After Sam gets his soul back his relationship with Dean is rockier than ever. Secrets have piled up and tension is running high between the brothers. Their inability to get along causes problems for Bobby so he orders them to get help or get gone. Working through their problems is more complicated than they thought, and their therapist isn’t who she seems.
If you’ve ever thought “Those boys could use buckets of therapy,” here they are! (Also Cas gets some therapy, along with a cameo I enjoyed, but I’m in it for the Sam-and-Dean show.)
Alive and Well (And Living in Hell)dear_tiger | R | Temporary character death (you know how they are), zombies, visceral horror and light wincesty undertones.
At least thirteen people claim to have either personally witnessed or participated in the death of Sam or Dean Winchester, sometimes both. Oh well. They say true love never dies.
After being killed like zombies, Sam and Dean wake up in Hell and Heaven. Sam does find Jess - now an old Hell veteran with a screaming, swearing monster she carries in a bag. While they are trying to stay sane and more or less in one piece, Dean has to think of a scheme bad enough to get him kicked out of Heaven. It’s a story of zombie love - for one’s brother and for the world of the living - that’s strong enough to make two men and one woman crawl back out of the grave. (Post-series)
Heart wrenching and funny by turns, full of myths-turned on their sides, this is a great ride. The “overtones” are basically that they’re soulmates, and comments from other characters similar to those you’d see in the series.
