This story does a lovely job of showing a young Jared with flaws and creating the right amount of angst to keep the story interesting and compelling up to the very last sentence. Jared's relationships with minor characters including his son are touching and well rounded. The boy in this story is written right for his age and is charming and realistic. A bittersweet tale that will keep you rooting for a happy ending.

This is a beautifully crafted modern take on the regency romance, a slow-burning story of forbidden love that is by turns heart wrenching and breathtaking. At 200k+, it’s easy to lose yourself in the world the author has created.

It’s particularly interesting to note some of the parallels to what has been unfolding in S9. Charlie playing matchmaker rounds it out nicely and gives some balance to the boys’ angst.

This fic gives Dean his own set of trials to complete, and as tough as they are objectively for anyone, they tug at every single one of his specific insecurities as he tries to prove himself to be something he believes he isn’t: worthy. The Sam/Kevin side pairing and the set of challenges they face offer a sharp contrast to the Dean/Cas angst, casting their struggles, particularly Dean’s, into sharp relief.
