I read somewhere that Daft Punk worked really closely with the director and the sound guys so that the music would mesh with the FX and the ambient noises of the Grid.

As for the sequel, it might be doable -- after all, Howard Shore scored the entire LoTR trilogy.

According to IMDb.com, Thomas has also composed music for two Gaspar Noé films.

I haven't conducted a poll, but I wouldn't be surprised if Legacy brought Daft Punk a lot of new fans, which would be an argument in favor of them also working on the sequel. (In my case, I was already familiar enough with the band to be excited they were doing the soundtrack, but it wasn't until after I saw the film that I started buying their albums.)
