I did really enjoy most of the episode even though the ranting below will probably not make it seem that way. But I was more :D than >:( so I always count that as a win when it comes to Glee.

1) Your thoughts are mostly my thoughts. I was STARING at the screen when Will a) gave out the "guess who woke up before I did" line and b) started ranting about Emma's issues at Sue and Figgins. You douche, you knew exactly what you were getting into, you should have either let her go for good if you didn't have the patience for her actual mental health issues, or you should maybe try to work it out with her instead of spilling the beans in front of your sworn enemy and your mutual employer. Also, the way to talk to Santana would have been in private in your own office. Not in front of the whole club. Then again, he clearly has no sense of decency, he's yelled at Rachel before. I hate him so much, and I hate that he keeps getting to be the good guy with only small snatches of being called out on it, and never for long. Morrison is a very ( ... )

I was going to try to stay relatively unspoilered for this season of Glee; we can all see how long my resolve lasted. That being said, I just love feeling like I'm not alone on the Tony / casting thing.

Why would you even bring it up in a storyline that way if your resolution will be to say "yes Kurt, you're always going to be judged for things beyond your control. Sucks to be you!" -- EXACTLY. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I entirely trust RM and co. to handle this storyline in a way that has any sort of positive message in this regards. Prove me wrong, please ( ... )

Oh goodness, I just saw the length of my comment and it's like a whole post O_o Sorry, crackedaglet!

And yeah, I hope that despite what it looks like right now from that admittedly tiny preview, this season will actually stay relatively good for him. There was too much Kurt unhappiness last season :(

Never apologize for being awesome in my journal! <3

I wholeheartedly agree with both you and alterego on this Kurt situation. I'm prepared for the worst (I think), but I'm really trying to stay positive and tell myself that they wouldn't go there if the take home message is a completely demoralizing one.

Yes, Glee is faily at most of the messages it sends and it likes to give Kurt angst, but more than that, it likes to make him triumphant. I have to believe that this will be true again. I HAVE TO.

I too was surprised that Mike didn't seem too enthusiastic about Blaine joining New Directions. Mike has been such a sweet character throughout season 1 and 2. I really really hope they don't make him into a douche-bag this season (like they've done with most of the male characters on the show).

I'm not super worried about that happening (although the possibility always exists with this show). It would be an incredible turn around from what they have established for his character (where most of the others have been at least partially douchey from the beginning).

But, yeah, I don't really understand the hostility toward Blaine from Mike and I'm not sure if I want them to just drop it and pretend it didn't happen or give him an actual reason for it. The whole thing felt a bit random to me- like, I understand why there would be concerns from the other guys, but they didn't really develop it or build it in a natural way.

You're right, it would be an incredible turn around if they did make Mike into a douche-bag. Still, the worry is there for me. Mike Chang needs to stay awesome! If they do change his character for the worse, I'll probably stop watching the show. I'm still excited to see how his story will unfold throughout this season. IF Mike chooses to pursue dancing for his career, I can see him getting into a high-end dance school of sorts in New York City like Tisch or Juilliard. Ditto with Brittany as both certainly have the abilities (am not quite sure about their ambition though as this point).

I actually found myself wondering if his reaction face was miscut -- you know, a reaction shot from a line that was said earlier. I mean, he just doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body!

Well, that, and the fact that I totally ship Mike/Blaine friendship. Thanks for that, fandom. :)

But to be so hostile to Blaine just for joining was bullshit. And IHNI why Mike was all :| about it. It made me sad. :(

Honestly, I think it's a tie in to the fact that just the ~other day ND puts on a big number and gets utterly massacred for performing. Then Blaine waltses in and the Cheerios are backing him up, he does The Carlton and people are loving it, and despite the piano catching fire at the end and it being some crazy Santana plot in some ways, Blaine certainly didn't get treated like some social pariah/loser and get food tossed at him.

See, I didn't read that scene that way at all. I saw an audience that was generally ambivalent to Blaine until the Cheerios joined in. And once it was made into pretty girls shaking it (with Santana teaching Blaine to do so as well), the audience responded to it.

I don't think we were supposed to take it as Blaine being embraced by McKinley, but rather benefiting from Santana's manipulations. And I sort of feel like if that was supposed to be the point, it would have been made a lot more explicitly with whoops and cheering and so forth.

But, as I said, I understand why Finn and the others might be resentful of Blaine in the abstract. I don't think they justified it narratively in this episode.

5) It took me literally at least a minute to realize that "ball-hogging" meant solo-hogging, and had absolutely nothing to do with Blaine being gay. *headdesk*

26) Purely from a casting standpoint, as somebody who was student director for her high school drama club, Blaine is the perfect Tony. That being said, I'd love for Kurt to kill in the audition.

3) That seriously bugged me. I'm a massive Hummelberry stan, and that felt so OOC to me.

On another note, the "Beaches" comment has me wanting to write Hummelberry NYC fic where they grow close, then grow apart, and then Rachel dies and Klaine raise her kid...
I am such an angst whore.

I have seen some people interpreting Finn's comments as homophobic, but I really don't see any basis that beyond his past interactions with Kurt, which the show has gone to some lengths to address.

West Side Story is one of my least favorite musicals, so I don't have a lot of strong opinions about it beyond wanting Kurt to get the lead, tbh. I love Blaine and I think he'd be great, but I don't want this story to be about him. I don't think it will do the character or the show any favors to go that route.

I'm allergic to angst, so that would utterly destroy me. ;_________;

I hate West Side story. Hate it. I so completely wish they had done Guys and Dolls instead. There are 2 male leads, so Kurt could easily have gotten one.

I don't think Finn was homophobic, I just didn't realize his "ball hogging" was sports reference, and not a reference to Kurt's testicles. *headdesk*

I think Mike would make for an interesting Bernardo though (from what I remember of the film, Bernardo is more of a dancer than a singer but my memory is hazy so I could be wrong about that). I read a rumour that one of Mike's solos might be the song Cool so perhaps he's auditioning for the role of Ice.
