Yarn folks are the best!

I'll tell you, yarn people are the best. I have been making a dinosaur for my son's school auction that is coming up. Here is the picture of Esteve and what he is supposed to look like. Although this picture makes him look more green than he is in "real life."

That is one of the most adorable stegosaurus I have ever seen.

Clicking on the photo to view it at higher resolution, it appears that the head, neck and body was all made in one seamless piece. Being relatively new to amigurumi-making, I've always wondered how people achieve this. Do you mind enlightening me with some pointers on how I could create that seamless curvature from head to neck please?

It is all one piece, and I did it with a combination of increases and decreases. I have a picture of the stegosaurus mascot, and I laid my guy next to it and would say to myself, "OK, it needs to get bigger on the bottom but smaller on the top, so I need to increase on the bottom side but decrease on the top side." It was a bit of trial and error and knowing to at least some extent what effect doing different things would have. I haven't made very many of my own patterns, so I was pretty happy that this guy came out so well! He should be done pretty soon, and I'll post the finished product. I haven't had a lot of crafting time the past few days, and I'm itching to get him done!
