It was a quiet day at the coffee shop. Not much going on at all, only two customers in the place. That quietness ended when a glowing blue portal opened up and two people in spider-costumes stepped through.
And in the corner one of those customers, Peter Parker, put his book down and sighed. "I haven't had this kind of thing happen in years. AU something or others?"
Ben Reilly

"Good guess, Pete," Ben said. "Kinda surprised you're so dressed down, though."

"You're one to talk," Peter said. "At least the girl has a jacket on."
He peered at her a little closer. "Wait. Are you-"
Jessica Drew
Black Widow

"Yeah, but not the one you know," Jessica said as she glanced at the portal device on her wrist. "You're a few years older than I expected." And more alive. All the information she had about this Peter suggested that he was very similar to her Peter. Which, as far as she knew, really should have meant he was dead. "You don't happen to know why we're here, do you?"
Peter Parker

"I was assuming it was just weirdness to ruin my life," Peter suggested. "I don't think I'll be able to keep hanging out here without a lot of awkward questions from now on."
Ben Reilly

"No such luck," Ben said. "We may be special, but we're not Fandom magic."
Jessica Drew
Black Widow
Earth-16107737
"We're just from alternate worlds and both happen to be Fandom ex-pats, just like you," Jessica explained. "And now we have to go back to stop the possible conquering of all reality."

Peter stared at his coffee for a moment. "I'm retired, you know. I'm not like you anymore. I put the costume away years ago. I died in that costume."
Ben Reilly
Spider-Man
Earth-6162563
"I died in this costume once, too," Ben said. "I got better, just like you, apparently."
"Come on, brother. Don't make me say it. With great power..."
Jessica Drew
Black Widow

"If you don't help us, some bad guys will come here, eat you, and eat every other Spider-Totem on this world," Jessica interrupted. "And from what I'm seeing, there are a lot of them here. The Inheritors will feast," Jessica said, tapping her portal device. "And then they'll take over every single reality just as soon as they conquer Fandom. We can stop that, but it's going to take more than just me and him."
Peter Parker

"Just quoting Uncle Ben would have been enough," Peter said. "What can I do to help?"
Ben Reilly

"She's still working on that part," Ben said. "But you can start by getting your spare costume and webshooters."
Peter Parker

"You don't have a plan yet?" Peter asked.
Jessica Drew
Black Widow

"It's almost there," Jessica said reassuringly. "Answer me this. I have a device on my wrist that can travel anywhere in the multiverse, but I had trouble locating you exactly. This was our fifth try and we finally got to you. And everywhere we've gone, the people hunting is have shown up within a couple minutes, but we're still in the clear here. What's going on here? What makes this place unique?"
Peter Parker
Spider-Man
Earth-16109327
"Not much. I mean, Fandom used to be located right over there until I activated the emergency protocols on the machinery under the town," Peter said. "But it hasn't been there in years."
Ben Reilly
Spider-Man
Earth-6162563
"Wait, there's machinery under the town that can move the entire island?" Ben asked. "Did you know that, Jess? I didn't, and I was in Fandom right after this guy!"
Peter Parker
Spider-Man
Earth-16109327
"Yeah. We were being attacked by elves during my graduation and I was the lucky guy who sent the island on a tour through time and space," Peter said. "God, that place is nuts."
Jessica Drew
Black Widow
Earth-16107737
"I've got it," Jessica said, standing up as she looked at the portal device on her wrist. "It'll just take a little bit of tinkering--" Mid-sentence, she saw a red portal open up outside. "But that's in a minute. They finally caught up. We have to go."
Jessica opened a portal to a random Earth and led her fellow Spiders through it.

Before running through, Peter grabbed the bag that he carried with him everywhere just in case. He always knew this was inevitable. That's why he never went anywhere without the costume.
