"I don't have the patience of some of my brothers," Verna taunted after swatting Jessica away. She had taken several good hits, but was far too strong after devouring Ben's essence. She wasn't going to go down easily. "I'm not one to play with my food during the meal."

"And I'm not one to be eaten!" Jessica said, firing a pair of weblines to distract Verna as she leaped in for a kick.

With uncanny speed, Verna dodged both webs, sidestepped the kick, and caught Jessica by the throat. "You're clearly not as smart as you think you are, little Totem." Her eyes began to glow again.

Although the Totem and her allies had proven tougher to kill than expected, Verna had at least bought a moment to cross onto Fandom so she could take proper control of her army of Hounds and destroy all that displeased her until she could figure how to harness Fandom's power. Breaking from the battle, she strode toward the Causeway with purpose.

And then it was like hitting a brick wall.

"What manner of trickery is this?" Verna asked, pushing against thin air without budging it in the slightest.

Jessica webbed her jacket back to her and used a... like, eighth wind to charge. She leaped and hit a dropkick to the back of Verna's head, smashing her face against the air before turning and flipping onto the Causeway. Her landing was weak, but the wicked smile on her face made up for it. "No tricks. We just figured out how to lock the door," Jessica said. "Fandom is safe from your family, Verna. And the Spiders of Fandom are literally untouchable. We'll send your Hounds back when we're done with them."

"I beg to differ," Verna said. "You Spider Totems are all the same. You'll sacrifice yourself for your allies!" She turned to rush the people she'd been fighting the past several minutes, but felt herself pulled tight up against the barrier.
