I hate Bs, 3.0 and all the rest of the ways of expressing shy of an A. I know grades are not the important thing, but for good reasons, it would be nice to get better grades. I'm perfectly happy to get a B on project when I feel I cut some corners and/or disregarded advice, or even when I'm not personally happy with my performance, like now in ( Read more... )

honestly many people give out Bs pretty sparingly, and consider a B to be a very good grade, so I wouldn't take a B in a bad way. Some professors give C's for work that is done on time and as expected, Bs to work that is above the expectation, and As only rarely to very exceptional work which is not something everyone will produce every time, even despite working hard. Of course other professors give out Bs to any jackass who walks through the door (as happens in graduate school).

I felt the same frustration in some of my classes. I couldn't have gotten a bad grade in my CS classes if I tried because I obviously had a more firm grasp on the subjects than just about anyone else there, but when it came to my human development, it was B's no matter what. He only gave out 3 A's to the entire class though, so it was hard to feel too bad about it. Part of the problem was that he didn't understand math. The way he graded extra credit assignments meant that anything less than 100% could not possibly have any influence on the final grade, and he only gave partial credit on extra credit assignments. I tried to explain it to him and he didn't get it - "it's extra credit! Of course it counts ( ... )
