The dats is very likely intact, you'll probably just need to slave the hard drive to another machine to access it.

That's what I'm hoping; I got a little overfocused on the "boot device" aspect of it, which totally failed.

I can't imagine that I'd be able to do the data extraction very quickly or well, though, so I've been putting it off.
