From the Merriam Webster dictionary:
In speech and writing "a" is used before a consonant sound . Before a vowel sound "an" is usual

F1 is a consonant sound, therefore "a" is technically correct. In speech most people will say "an" F1 driver though.

Where you actually thinking all that when you wrote out your entry, or did you have a brief moment of stupidity when you realized I was right, so you then did everything in your power to prove me wrong?
