Summary:
Loosely based on Charles Dickens's "Great Expectations", except he's an epic novelist and I'm a struggling fanfiction writer so I take out the 'Great'. Only minor references to the text and perhaps some shameless plagiarism of the most famous quotes and situations. The setting, like "Great Expectations", is in old England, so please try to imagine that Siwon, Hankyung, Leeteuk and Kangin are believable English names.
Because I'm not sure if I'd actually follow through with this fic till the end, it won't be until at least the fifth chapter before this makes its way to the miracle community. So if you've found me by chance and want to continue reading, thank you in advance!
I know GE is a depressing fic but the world and suju need some love, and love I will shower upon them.

Character list of Expectations:
Choi Siwon - The equivalent of Pip in GE with pretty much the same background. The fic charts his growing up from boy to man and is mostly told from his point of view. Siwon is a poor orphaned child living with his brother and his husband (Because we will imagine that in Victorian England same-sex marriage is allowed). At some point in his teenage years he meets Hankyung and his life changes forever.
Hankyung - The equivalent of Estella in GE but less cruel and more emotive. Also orphaned at a young age, he lives with an older man with a penchant for cross-dressing, who adopted him from a young age, raising him only to break hearts. He meets Siwon, also as a teenager and leads him to believe that he is a female. He is shocked when the truth is revealed and Siwon hardly seems to mind the fact that he too, is as much of a boy as Siwon is.
Kim Heechul - The equivalent of Miss Havisham in GE but less insane and with a sense of humor. Left at the altar years ago by his would-be husband, he adopts Hankyung and raises him to break hearts for nothing more than his own sadistic pleasure. Unlike Miss Havisham, Heechul is always dressed to the nines - as a woman and sometimes dresses Hankyung as a female for entertainment. Most of the time though, Heechul is more playful than malicious, retaining a childlike quality that endears him to Hankyung.
Park Jungsoo - The equivalent of Mrs. Joe in GE but hardly abusive towards Siwon at all. In fact, he loves Siwon like his own son but sometimes has difficulty expressing it because Siwon reminds him of his good-for-nothing father who left a mountain of bad debt in his passing. Jungsoo adopted his own birth mother's surname after his father died, while Siwon, his brother from a different mother, takes on his own mother's surname. Jungsoo is also known as Leeteuk to his husband, Kim Youngwoon
Kim Youngwoon - The equivalent of Joe in GE but the two are as different as night and day. Siwon is like a son to him and he is eager for Siwon to one day take over his carpentry business, something Siwon would rather not do, preferring instead to practice writing in the sand with what little memory he has of his limited education before hard times hit. Known as Kangin to Leeteuk, Youngwoon is not illiterate and as far as possible teaches Siwon as much as he possibly can, though he fancies carpentry as much more practical in this day and age.
Shin Donghee - The equivalent of Magwitch the escaped convict in GE who first meets when Siwon as boy. Known better as Shindong, he does not forget Pip's kindness in the marshes and devotes himself to earning money that he anonymously donates to Siwon for his education, making Siwon the 'gentleman' that he could never be. The pair reunite later in the story.
Kim Kibum - The equivalent of Jaggers the lawyer in GE, he is responsible for Siwon's life in London and guardianship over Siwon until he turns 18. Unlike Jaggers, however, Kibum is young, intelligent and funny, often pranking Siwon or engaging him in mutual mischief, much to the distress of Siwon's tutors. He eventually ends up with a husband for himself thanks to Siwon.
Others slated to appear:
Lee Donghae - The equivalent of Biddy in GE. Siwon flirts with the notion of beginning a romantic relationship with his childhood friend, but abandons the thought quickly enough. Donghae's feelings for Siwon remains much of an enigma throughout the first part of the story.
Zhou Mi - As one of Siwon's best friends after he leaves for London to begin his education as a gentleman.
Cho Kyuhyun - As Hankyung's first husband.
Authors note: After reading my character descriptions I feel like I'm turning this into a comedy.
