So I have a kitten!

Her name is Izumi, or Zoomer when she's tearing circles around my living room. She's some sort of a Siamese mix - not quite the mega-angular face/pointy ears/skinny body of the modern Siamese breed, not quite the original "applehead"/sturdy body variety. I'm not a big fan of the siamese, but she's actually very cute. Probably about 3-4 months ( Read more... )

Sasha, when we brought her home, didn't run and hide and didn't really explore. She just wandered around the living room for half an hour. Eventually I went off my my room to try to take a nap, and mom went to take a bath. As soon as the bathroom door closed, Sasha started screaming. MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW! She was probably scared we'd gone and abandoned her, and it never seemed to occur to her that if she roamed around and looked in enough rooms she'd find me. Eventually I went and got her, picked her up and showed her around the ground floor of the house, and she seemed satisfied after that. But it took several days before she got any real urge to explore the house.

That you take care of the fleas. From what I understand, a kitten can actually die from loss of blood if the infestation is bad enough . . .

It's definitely a lot better now. When I got her home, I could see some crawling on her head, and some serously swollen that must have just fed. Can't see any now, nor the black fluff that comes from their presence. But she got a mega-dose of the anti-parasitic stuff at the vet

Fleas BAD. donutato_kun September 2 2006, 16:53:45 UTC
Flea baths good. Though... not for the cat (not fans of water).

Cats are tempermental. That's why I like them. I don't know... dogs are cool, make no mistake, but I have trouble trusting something that loves me unconditionally. Cats have this "whatever" attitude that I find more in sync with the way of the slacker-chan. To quote Red Dwarf: "You ever see a cat fetch a stick? Hell no. We say -- YOU go get it! It's YOURS. If you wanted the stick so bad, why'd you throw it away in the first place???"

That's an animal I can respect.

I'll have to see this little Japanese-named Egyptian goddess someday. :-)

Fleas very bad... crainefish September 2 2006, 21:22:10 UTC
Giving her a (water) bath is how I discovered the problem to begin with. Sometimes I'm just very dense.

Although now she's fascinated with my shower. Sits in the space between the shower liner and the shower curtain on the rim of the bathtub when the shower is running. But does not like to get splashed. Go figure.

The difference between cats and dogs:

A dog thinks "Huh, there's this person. He loves me, he feeds me, he plays with me. He must be a GOD!"
A cat thinks "Huh, there's this person. He loves me, he feeds me, he plays with me. _I_ must be a GOD!"

... what's the significance of her name, by the way?

I've watched too much Full Metal Alchemist in the last two weeks. The boys' teacher's name is Izumi. Dunno - somehow it fit the kitten. She's Siamese, the name is Japanese, there's an "ese" connection here...

In short, I don't know. :-)

Ah. I don't think I've got that far in FMA (and even if I have, it's been months since I've watched it anyway).

"Come visit and meet her!"

Would this apply to this weekend?

Sure. Saturday before samcallahan's Big Beef Party would work. Sunday I most unfortunately have to go to a work-related retreat.

That sounds good. Any time before the party should be okay. I'm going to need directions--is the email on your userinfo page up to date?
