Actually, the crafty Japs already thought of that... put the key next to the start button, step on the brake (as you normally would), the green light comes on (led in the center of the start button), wait a second for the key to be RF powered, then push the start button (with the key since it's already touching the button.) There are several youtubes of sales drones demo'ing the process. [It's something my salesman never mentioned, and he mentioned A LOT about the car.]
The battery wasn't dead. Just low enough to not always work. The dealer will replace them during scheduled maint, but I've not had time to drop the car off. (for a few months -- they replace them once a year, but this one got screwed up from the edge of the toe-tag holding the trunk button down.)
[I've bitched about this for 2 years... use a bunch of key blanks instead of poping the key apart and poking part of a plastic tie inside.]
