(3) Experiments I

[Having mostly settled in by now, Sasaki has started to examine some of the many intriguing lines of experimentation, research, and general knowledge that she may only be able to pursue here. Today, she's planning out some experiments.]

A.) [Action: At the high school, after the day is over, Sasaki is still at her desk writing notes. She may also ( Read more... )

[[And, flying along in the street, is a mechanical flying cockroach. It's just minding its own business, doing its cockroach business, though it doesn't seem to mind the bright sunlight, or flying nearby the odd drone or two in its way.

Seemingly unrelated, further up the street, there is a female-looking person limping along on a cane.]]

[Sasaki spots the cockroach and frowns. They're notoriously nocturnal creatures. This may be the first unusual organism she's encountered here--is it a clue? To the nature of the world?!

She picks up a net and starts to approach it carefully.]

[[Life is grand, being a cockroach. Even in the middle of the day. It lands on a mailbox and turns to look back in the direction from whence it came.

Meanwhile, up the street, the limping person is still following after it.]]

[Sasaki approaches the mailbox with the net, ready to pounce with her limited agility. At this point, she spots the limping person further up the street. Is she following this insect for research as well? If so, you'd think she'd move faster, but it's hard to tell since she's got a cane.

She shrugs and starts to swing the net.]

[Curiously stops while out walking, he'll move over to her after a moment.]

Studying?

Yes. It's a slightly morbid experiment, I'm afraid, but it's the matter of most ... immediate interest. I'm wondering if animals or insects are resurrected in the same way that we and the drones are in Mayfield.

Not really morbid. It's natural to be curious.

Ah. What do you intend to do to check this?

I'm glad you see it that way. The experimental design is simple enough. The variable I'm testing for, of course, is resurrection of death, and there are a number of questions associated with it. First off, of course, are these creatures revived in the same way that humans are? I have an experimental group which I will kill, varying the periods of time, as well as the type of insect, in case this has any bearing on the matter. Also, I have a control sample, which I'll allow to die in the natural course of things, feeding them and so on, which I will also observe for resurrection behavior ( ... )

[Yuki has been reading silently in her assigned seat in every class, only returning to the world when she is explicitly called for an answer or required to participate in some activity. As the day concludes, she is the last person in the room to leave besides Sasaki. And she will walk by slowly, still reading, when she shifts her attention slightly to the piece of paper on Sasaki's desk.]

[Sasaki glances up to see Yuki's gaze upon her paper. It surprises her slightly, and she puts on a social expression to cover it up. On the paper she's just finished writing the phrase "energy conversion would be enough to power the simulation."]

Hello, Nagato-san. How are you?

[The book is slowly closed as Yuki nods. This is perhaps an equivalent to 'I am well'. The words scrawled on the paper are taken in in a half second as her eyes flicker briefly over it.]

Ah... you're interested in my experimental design...?

[She holds the paper out to her, not realizing how Yuki has probably already read it.]

[Here is one rather angelic looking boy peering into the jars at all the captured insects.]

Hmmm, I hope you don't plan on killing these.

cramschoolgod February 24 2011, 03:11:35 UTC
Not all of them, but some of them, I'm afraid.

How crude but wholly expected.

Well, I'm open to suggestions as to how to do this more effectively, if you have them.

[Shana, who also stays after school quite often, will stop by and peer over at Sasaki]

"Hm, what are you doing here after school? Normally we'll get in trouble if we're here after-hours without adult supervision."

[Sasaki looks up from her paper.]

I'm just finishing up my experimental design. I'll be done fairly soon, I suppose.

flameyedhunter February 24 2011, 03:57:43 UTC
"Interesting, what do you intend to build with it?"

[Shana looks a little young to be in high school, physically maybe 13-14, though some have mistaken her for an 11 year old.]

Ah... it's not a schematic. It's a plan. I'm going to test the resurrection capability of Mayfield on its insects.

[Sasaki notes her youthful appearance but doesn't change her attitude in any way because of it.]
