Yeah, the ending bugged me, too. And I agree that the way it was done was ridiculous, too. Sure, the writers have made Ryan do stupid things before, but I didn't think he was supposed to be THAT stupid! Grr.

I stopped watching back in the fall because I got bored, but now I definitely won't be watching ever again. I liked Marissa too and never really understood the haters, to be honest. I've heard that next season is supposed to focus more on new characters, like Kaitlin... umm, no thanks. The whole reason I used to love The OC was because of the 4 core characters. ITA about Taylor - I like her in small doses but she could never replace Marissa.

Lame. For realz. And if the show tanks next year, good riddance.

I don't actually watch the OC, but, erhm... I'm sorry for your loss?

I think the point of killing Marissa off was also to be able to take it into a new spin on the fourth season - there will be a huge change in Ryan and Julie and Summer etc...maybe they needed her death to be able to create a change in the major characters so that they could to some new storylines?

I honestly don't see how the characters couldn't have changed just as well if she'd sailed away on a boat as planned. The rest of them could still move on and have their own stories. In the latest Entertainment Weekly, Schwartz said, "We're going to get back to the funnier, quirkier qualities we had." Good luck doing that when you kill a character who was a beloved girlfriend/daughter/sister/best friend/whatever to every other main member of the cast. Schwartz loses no matter what he does now -- if he has everyone get over the death by episode two, a lot of people will be angry. If he drags the angst on for the first several episodes, the fans will be depressed and annoyed, and that doesn't sound very fun to me. The whole thing is ridiculous and not one thing anyone can say will convince me otherwise.

Okay...okay....I don't even really watch it. Mostly because of Marissa - so like you, I am completely bias on the matter. But what I am also saying is that I know that if my best friend - who is so completely one of my soulmates, died in an unexpected way - I would be gutted to the point that it would change my life and me forever. If she went away sailing on a boat, hell, I would go visit her. And also, Misha Barton has no comic timing whatsoever, so if Josh Schwartz wants it to be funnier, her not being on it won't work. And sure, if that was just the case they could have sent her away...but I honestly also think that a large reason why they killed her off is because they never want the chance of her coming back to be an option. I also think they might have some changes in some characters - namely, Ryan, Summer, Julie and Caitlin that can only be explored through how grief changes a person. And if they don't make any of those characters go down a completely different path in season four, then I will bow down at your feet ( ... )

Ugh. My head is so full of herion-chic imagery for an assignment, I can't write right. Ignore the multitude of spelling and grammar mistakes, even though I know it's hard for you! ;) Um, but yes. I meant to say that Mischa has no comic timing and therefore a funnier show would not work with her on it.
