My sister is throwing me a baby shower. In early November. Which means she needs to know how many people are going to be there by about mid-October. Which means we have to send out invitations in earlyish September. Which is mere WEEKS AWAY.

All of which means I had to decide where to register for baby stuff and go do it. And I did! Last weekend! ( Read more... )

that bedding is gorgeous!

I know nothing about registering for baby stuff at all, so I am no help there, sorry. when Lauren came to live with us @ 9 months old, we were given two days notice, so as you can imagine, a lot of panic-buying took place, haha. (up until then, we'd be told not to get our hopes up that she would be ours, so lets not even get into the emotional mindfuckery of it all.) we also borrowed a lot of stuff from her previous foster parents, until we could gradually replace things. she never had a new cot, though-- just the one we borrowed (and eventually gave back.)

up until she came into our lives, I had ZILCH to do with babies, too. I knew NOTHING, haha. it's a pretty fast learning curve, believe me, and babies are surprisingly resilient, thankfully. (I wasn't, as it turned out, but I got over it.)

NONE OF THAT WAS HELPFUL AT ALL, WAS IT? :D

I have had about 7 months notice and I already feel the panic-buying coming, haha. I just remind myself that babies have been around since before cribs and diapers and strollers and wipes and all that, so it will probably survive even if we don't have all these very specific items. MAYBE.

That bedding is so cute. I have very similar taste. Ick, who wants bright pink or primary colors or teddy bears all over everything?

Anyway, I see your dilemma about the BRU vs. Amazon thing. If it was me, I might try to mention something about that on the invitations? But then again, that seems kind of complicated and people are generally stupid and won't understand. Maybe something like "Addie is registered at Babies 'R Us. Some of this registry may also be found on her Amazon registry for convenient online shopping"...yeah, that does sound a little too complicated for some people, doesn't it? But you're totally right. I'd want people to be able to get the stuff cheaper too, but then again, those people who just walk into BRU will be screwed. Sucks to be them...

omg, Cat, the bedding choices for babies are HIDEOUS. I do not understand. I am so glad I found one that I like!

I think I will just leave stuff on both sites and if I get duplicates I can return them to the BRU store for credit. Lord knows we will probably have plenty of things there to spend $$ on.

I don't know if it's just me, but even if an item is on the registry at one store, that doesn't mean I'll buy it from that store, I'll just phone the store to take it off the register if I buy it elsewhere, does your BRU do that? And I think someone who would do that, would already know about checking other places as well, right?

Or you could just write: Registered at amazon.com and Babies R Us. And take back any duplicates to BRU.

And the blanket is very cute, I especially like the two different patterns.

I think the invite is going to say "registered at amazon.com and Babies R Us" and whatever duplicates I get I'll take back to BRU. There will be plenty of things there for us to spend the extra $$ on, I'm sure.

Isn't is awesome? It's cute without being TOO cute, if you know what I mean.
