Elise Crane toyed with the silver necklace and its small moonstone pendant. She glanced at the clock in the corner of the room and frowned. It was far too late for her father to be out with that woman still. Granted, most people would think it was still fairly early, but Elise felt differently

Crane let himself into the house. He'd been successful in his effort to divert the woman's suspicions, but he'd need to follow up on the matter. There was also the issue with Elise's behavior at the restaurant - she'd have to be dealt with as well.

She heard him come in and promptly picked up the book she had beside her, settling in as if she'd been reading since she'd arrived home. Elise knew she was due for a scolding for having disturbed his dinner, but... Well. She'd had to get a look at that woman, now hadn't she?

He passed the parlor, then stopped, looking at her. "Still awake?"
