Title: -
Pairing: Teddy/Taeyang, CL/the wrong tree
Rating: PG
A/N: Once again, my attempt at a drabble turned into a strange little one-shot. >>;

CL lingered after the rest of 2NE1 left his studio, and Teddy decided to pretend he hadn't noticed her for as long as he possibly could. Her half-playful, half-completely-serious "I love Teddy!"s had only turned into even more blatant flirting over time, and she'd been particularly aggressive today.

She was a nice girl, but he wasn't really attracted to her, for one, and even if he had been, she was too young, too straightforward, and Teddy didn't do too well with girls under normal circumstances. He was a little terrified of her.

And now he could no longer ignore her, because she had just cleared her throat. "Teddy?"

He spun his chair around, starting to sweat under his two hoodies and baseball cap, and tried to smile. "Yeah?"

"What are you doing tonight?"

"Oh, um... I'm just gonna..." He flailed one hand vaguely as he tried to think. "... Go home, I guess..."

Her expression brightened. "Wanna go out instead?"

"Um. Listen, I don't..." He shifted in his chair. "I don't really like girls."

The words had tumbled out of his mouth without his brain's consent, and his face suddenly felt so hot he was sure CL could see steam rising from his head. He hadn't meant it that way, but of course, she understood wrong. "Oh... Oh. Okay. I thought..." She laughed embarrassedly. "Oh God, I'm sorry. I feel really stupid."

"It's all right," Teddy said in a small voice.

Teddy sat back after pressing play and slung one arm over Young Bae's shoulders, nodding his head to the beat. He was pretty proud of the track - he liked the melody and Young Bae had done incredibly well. It'd only taken a couple of takes before Teddy had been satisfied, and he already knew the song would be a hit.

He only realized something was wrong when Young Bae scooted closer to him and very nonchalantly put a hand on his knee. It took him a few seconds to realize what was going on, but the tension in Young Bae's shoulders and the way he was sat very, very still made it obvious enough.

It was true that he was kind of touchy-feely around Young Bae, but he'd never really meant anything by it, and he'd never thought Young Bae would see it as anything other than casual affection. But now he was sure CL had told the other kids he was gay, and he could imagine the storm of speculation that had followed. Young Bae had apparently come to the wrong conclusion, just like she had, and decided to test his luck.

It was amazing how much trouble Teddy had gotten himself into with a single sentence. It wasn't like he didn't like guys - he'd never really acted on it, but he did watch gay porn when the mood struck him. And Young Bae was fucking hot from an objective standpoint, bisexual or not. He was too young, though, just like CL, and Teddy was his producer and...

And now the song was over and he had no idea what to do.

"Do you like it?" Young Bae asked quietly.

"Yeah." Teddy realized a second too late that he hadn't necessarily been talking about the song - fucking Korean language and its optional pronouns - and nearly winced when Young Bae smiled at him shyly and leaned in. He had only seconds to find a way out of the situation, and he was about to give up on tact and fucking flee when both their baseball caps saved the day by colliding with a dull thunk.

Young Bae froze, then leaned back, letting out an awkward little laugh as he blushed to the tips of his ears.

Teddy laughed too and patted his shoulder as platonically as he could manage. "So uh. You wanna do one more take? Just... in case," he said, wondering if he'd always been this socially retarded or if YG's trainees had managed to push him to a new low.

"Teddy, can I talk to you?" Ji Yong asked politely as he leaned into his studio. Teddy recognized the carefully-controlled anger in his voice and was seriously tempted to say no. He looked to Kush for help.

"Sure, man, we were just hanging out," he said. Teddy tried to kill him with his eyes as discreetly as possible.

"Oh, good." Ji Yong walked in, stopped in front of him, then looked at Kush. "It's kind of personal."

Kush nodded in understanding and gave Ji Yong a friendly slap on the back as he left the room. Teddy was suddenly afraid Ji Yong would hit on him, too, but the murderous look on his face quickly brought him back to reality. He wasn't fashionable enough for him, anyway.

"Why the hell did you go and tell CL you're gay?"

Teddy blinked. "I-- I didn't say that, she just--"

"You've had girlfriends before, right? You can't just lie about something like that because you're too scared to--"

"I'm not scared!" Teddy cut in. "It just... came out wrong."

Ji Yong gave him a look. "Yeah. Whatever. Young Bae's sure you like him now. Hope you're happy."

"... Does he really like me?"

"Yes. He does."

"Uh. How much?"

"A lot." The panic must have shown on his face, because Ji Yong gave him an even worse look. "You'd better not change your mind. You're lucky I didn't tell CL you like girls."

"I told you I didn't mean to s-- Wait, what? Change my mind?"

"He said you didn't turn him down."

Teddy opened his mouth to protest, then realized, with a nasty sinking feeling settling in the pit of his stomach, that he hadn't turned Young Bae down. Not clearly enough for a lovestruck teenager to get the message, anyway.

Being a songwriter meant being able to work from home, which had struck Teddy as the best way to avoid any teenager-related shenanigans. He could afford not to show up at the studios for a day - there were no recording sessions he had to be present for, and he was already spending too much time there, anyway.

He spent the entire day alone, working on some tracks for Young Bae and 2NE1, and even managed to say hi and thank you to the pizza delivery boy without making a fool of himself. His inability to communicate properly was apparently limited to YG kids.

He thought he'd managed to avoid all of them until his cellphone vibrated loudly on his desk around midnight. The message was from Young Bae - "good night... maybe we'll see each other in the studios tomorrow". Teddy grinned to himself, because that was kind of sweet, but then he remembered the awkward position he'd put himself in and stared at his phone forever, agonizing over the blank reply field.

Young Bae was still hot, and Ji Yong had more or less ordered Teddy to date him. If he had to choose between that and having CL after his ass again in addition to breaking the poor kid's heart...

"Hope so. sleep tight :)" he replied, feeling thoroughly strange, and turned off his phone before going back to work.

He'd never realized just how much he touched Young Bae on a day-to-day basis. They were recording a track for Ji Yong's upcoming solo album, and he'd decided to act exactly the way he usually did until he got a chance to talk to him in private. He now had an arm around his shoulders again, and there had been so many little nudges and touches he'd never consciously thought about that he couldn't really blame Young Bae for jumping to conclusions.

"I wanna talk to you after we're done," he said quietly as Ji Yong watched them from the recording booth, waiting for his cue.

Young Bae smiled at him. "Okay."

Ji Yong was as much of a perfectionist as usual, and it took well over an hour before he was satisfied with both his and Young Bae's vocals. He finally exited the studio, leaving them alone, and Young Bae looked at him expectantly.

"So, uh. There's something I wanted to tell you." He paused. Young Bae kept looking at him silently. "You know how I told CL I'm gay and all? I just-- don't tell her! But I just said that 'cause I didn't wanna hurt her feelings."

Young Bae looked confused, then disappointed. "Oh."

Teddy was about to go on when Young Bae scooted away from him, lowering his eyes, and he realized what the disappointment was about. "No, no! Dude, I'm just saying-- I don't wanna lie to you, okay?"

"Okay," he repeated dejectedly.

This was not going well. "Fuck. Listen. Let's have dinner tonight. Together."

He looked at him like he was speaking Chinese. Teddy leaned over, deciding he'd have to find other ways to communicate, and kissed him softly. "Dinner. Yes?"

Young Bae broke into a grin and looked down again, beet-red and fiddling with the edge of his sleeve. "Yes."

"Good. Just... don't listen to me. I'm fucking retarded," he muttered half to himself, shaking his head.

Young Bae gave him the silent, wondering look he always gave him when he slipped into English, then nodded in hesitant agreement. Teddy laughed and kissed him again.
