Oh sweetie - how awful! It looks like such a nice neighborhood. I hope y'all can rebuild and relive. What about the pool? The small glimpse of it in that one picture doesn't look that good, but I guess "shock" can restore it - right?
Oh the pool is a mess. The gutter fell on the filter and split the tubing. The power was (and still is) off for so long that the algae and other creatures are thriving there. In fact, the algae was so thick, the water was downright opaque. I was convinced that an alligator could be in there and we would never know it.
I'm thinking it's going to need to be emptied (carefully - can't just empty it because, even though it is a gunnite pool, it will pop out of the ground since our water table is so high) and acid-washed.
Man but what a mess. I am most concerned for all New Orleanians (I like to make up words) for the mold situation. Having allergies myself, I cannot imagine what this situation will do.
{{hugs}} to you and your family as you move forward.
Yes, alligators. I kept having this dream that there was an alligator in the pool, and I called Ernie, the pool guy to come get it out and clean up my pool but Ernie wouldn't come!
Weird, I know.
New Orleanians are actually what we're called...and the allergies are not so good right now. I was wering mask and gloves and boots.
I know all the platitudes about "you can replace things; you can't replace people," but this is your home. Even though you say you're fortunate, and maybe relatively you are, it still must be heartbreaking to have to deal with this kind of destruction.
I do hope the insurance companies are making it easy for all of you. Or easier anyway.
Yeah, I'm trying to put up a good front, but frankly this is damn hard.
Though the insurance companies sound helpful and empathetic on the phone, getting an appointment is no easy task. I'm just moving forward and paying for things before I've even had the adjuster on-site. It's been over a month - I can't afford to wait longer and allow the damage to continue!
Thanks - it's a very comfortable house and home. Actually, I think I'll be able to salvage quite a bit of the contents. Most of our stuff was above the water line, but furniture, appliances, electronics and the like are probably toast. But, gives me a chance to redecorate!
Yes, make lemonade. Good job on keeping positive. Decorating can be fun. Tune in to all those home makeover shows. They're fun to watch and you can get ideas.

And now I have visions of 'Ernie' going into the pool...and never being seen again!
