I'm Here!!

I've arrived unscathed and a little bit tired. It's 6 hours ahead of CST, so hopefully you're still asleep.

I just realized that - in my drunken stupor - that I wrote the LIVE Journey and it sounded as though Journey was actually performing. Uh, no...it was just a pretty good band covering some nice Journey tunes. Others too, but the Journey stood out.

No promises on not seeking out a Portuguese Procrastinating OC fanfiction writer - I'm desperate, you know?!?!

I'm glad the spirit is still there. The place will be rebuild.

Yes, I really think it will, but I don't think it will ever be the same place I know and love. Although I think it's going to take a mighty long time to rebuild...

I'm so very glad to get a dispatch from NO that is hopeful. It is sad, though, that many of your friends won't be returning. Your city has taken a terrible blow, but I have faith that it will rebound.

Yes, it is sad, but quite understandable. Many were not as fortunate as I was and had homes that were completely submerged for weeks. I guess the reality of them not returning didn't hit until I saw them at the party.

Thanks - even though it's for work, I'm planning to enjoy the trip. It's a nice break from the gloomy, disaster and construction zone of New Orleans.

Sad that so many are choosing not to return. Even NO mainstayers. I read an article on the Neville brothers and at least at press time, one or more had definitely planned to stay in Austin. I think for the city to really recover, it would help if the more recognizable names pitched in to make it happen.

I guess direct experience with the whole buildup/aftermath/relocation would play a huge factor in deciding whether to return.

Anyway, I'm glad that you at least have one bittersweet memory (I hope the first of many) of Christmas 2005.

I heard that NO is rebuilding as a completely wi-fi city, that's pretty cool. There's so much potential in rebuilding.

Back to Portugal? You're practically a native now!

I miss you, crash!

Speaking of recognizable names supporting the city, Emeril Lagasse re-opened his restaurant the same night as my office party. He was there for the opening and has been extremely supportive of and concerned for his staff.

I read about the wi-fi stuff too. And, considering that Nagin - the mayor - is the former head of Cox Communications, it shouldn't have been a surprise. A very nice surprise!

Portugal - I'm really liking this country. This may be my last trip, but I understand that additional accounts have been contracted, so I just may be coming here again in the future...
