Well, that was the coldest night of my life. What possessed me to decide to stay in that trailer? It's my own fault. I knew the final inspection wasn't done, but it had electricity, so what else did I need? How about some heat! While we're not exactly busting temperature levels, it was a cool 45 degrees Fahrenheit last night. Add to that, no

In the "summer" we camped in a tent on the west coast of Eire, I have never been so cold as at night. Socks, hoodie, sleeping bag and liner and I put my feet in the bag holder, my husband laughed so much!

Love the keep-warm tips though. I definitely had flannel sheets & nightgown (pretty picture? Not!), socks, several blankets but any exposed skin was subject to frost-bite. Ok, slight exaggeration, but it was damn cold!
West coast of Eire? As in Ireland? A beautiful country (I've only been to the west coast, but enjoyed the scenery and people).

I was shocked, really shocked how much I enjoyed the camping, hadn't done a tent in years and fully expected to give up after a couple of nights but it was really fun...
The icon is the beach where we were camping near, Banna Strand, absolutley beautiful.
Beautiful country, gorgeous sunsets, brill surf - bodyboarding, good food...but cold and wet mostly.
The locals kept saying the weather wasn't great and we kept explaining we knew what we were letting ourselves in for because, North Wales = cold, wet, but truly? Not that cold and wet!
Fingers crossed back to France next summer.

I just returned from Portugal. The countryside reminds me a bit of Tuscany - lots of olive trees, rolling hills (not so high though) and interesting old architecture.
France is another lovely country. Despite their apparent dislike of all things American, I've had several fabulous trips there. I hope you make it back too.

I remember staying in a camper in college once on campus because we'd been out late and thought it would be fun. It was below freezing. Not the smartest decision. I woke up snuggled with people I'd barely touched before. Chilling in more ways than one!

No bonding for me. I was the only lunatic to venture in to the unheated trailer.
Fatima, and the whole Portugal trip, was a wonderful distraction. Fatima was very peaceful and moving. We even visited the cottages where the children lived - and died. And even though the rest of the trip was work-related, it was still better than here that's for sure.

I'm glad you had the opportunity to get away and really remove yourself from more than disruptive and unpleasant surroundings.
I've been to Lisbon, but not to Fatima. I don't remember why that part of the trip was changed, but I'm really sorry I didn't go. Since I'm a "good Catholic school girl," I've heard that story for as as long as I can remember. There's something about being a child and hearing a story about other children that strikes such a chord. Somehow I was always fascinated with the details and their experience and the fact that one of them was still alive.
I recall the very eerie, unsettled and ominous feeling that seemed so prevalent at the concentration camps we visited. I always wondered if Fatima would somehow feel the polar opposite and if it was possible to close your eyes and still sense that this was a special, peaceful, connected place.
I'm so happy that much worked out for you. Baby steps, Bob!
