I am taking a vacation day today - my first day off in many, many, many months. And, I'm actually leaving my PC and the internet behind...at least for the daylight hours. Today (and Saturday, and Sunday) I will be communing with Mother Nature and enjoying the sights and sounds unique to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival which opens today ( Read more... )

Thanks! I'll be bouncing from stage to stage to catch Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, Ivan Neville (yep, that would be Aaron's brother and one of 'The Neville Brothers'), Sonny Landreth, Cowboy Mouth, The Black Crowes, and Steve Winwood among others.

And then I need to make my plans for tomorrow's lineup.

Meanwhile I plan to eat lots of soft-shell crab po'boy (my favorite), Crawfish Monica, jambalaya, and drink cold beer.

Yeah, we do have some seriously good food in New Orleans. And to have it all prepared and ready for the all-day graze-fest....is awesome. Jazz Fest is my favorite time of the year - it's the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May - - always, so make your plans now!

Good luck on the exam. By final, do you mean the last in a series of classes, or final exam as in end of term? Sorry, just not sure which version of exam we're looking at here (not that any are fun).

By the way, I haven't forgotten you - it's just been a hellacious, busy work week. Soon, though, I promise, like this weekend, ok?

I'm so jealous! My plans to storm New Orleans have been thwarted a number of times, but I'm determined to get there at some point for the Festival.

Have a great, great time, and boogie down for me!

Oh, and joey51 -- Good luck on your exam! It sucks to be last, doesn't it? But it will all be over soon.

You must come - the Jazz Fest is my favorite time of the year to be in New Orleans(and I'm native - born and raised).

Yesterday was great - a perfect day, lots of sunshine, good music and food. Cowboy Mouth and Steve Winwood were great. I'm heading out again today!
