Singapore in July!

My work life has been crazy busy - the end of a project always is and I’ve just completed one. Or at least this phase of it. So, after three weeks of non-stop work, yes that’s 21 days in a row, I’m finally coming up for air and sleep. And I’m ready to try to catch up on what’s been happening. But I fear I’ve missed so much, so many LJ entries ( Read more... )

Oh, now, much...you know I'll be praying for internet access in the hotel to keep in touch. Maybe a little divine intervention - or VooDoo - will make it happen.

By the way, this is where I beg you for beta material - the flight from Chicago to Singapore is 15 hours and 40 minutes long!!! So get writing!

Ummm, I don't think I can write 15 hours worth of fic. Besides, some nosy person will just sit next to you and then you won't be able to beta it anyway. Trains are best for betaing and writing.

Maybe I'll write you a REALLY REALLY LOOOOOONG Marissa POV.

Hmmm,15 hours of nothing vs. 15 hours worth of Marissa POV? Even with you writing it, um...Yeah, um, no thanks. I think I'd rather listen to my iPod (must get noise canceling headphones prior to trip).

*waves to Crash* I know what you mean about missing RL entries and then feeling you are too late to the party so to speak! When my friends went to Singapore they made sure to have tea at Raffles hotel.

Thanks for the welcome back and the tip on tea at Raffles. I'll be sure to check it out!

Stop encouraging her!

What about me, huh? Who will take care of me and my neurosis while she's gone. I barely survived the last business trip. No one cares about me and my needs.

Ohhh I'm envious Crash!

Have a genuine Singapore Sling at Raffles too!

Ooh, yes, Singapore Sling! I'll be sure to have one or more...

I love that my travels have all included sampling region-specific alcoholic beverages (Port Wine for Portugal, Riesling and other wines and beers from Bavarian region of Germany, wine sampling in Tuscany and now the Singapore Sling!). And, being from New Orleans makes it seem all the more appropriate.

Cheers cheeky - I'll be thinking of you as I sip away!

Heh. My sister taught in Singapore for two years (Princeton in Asia program). She taught English as a SL--even though it's technically the national language. She loved it and didn't want to come back! You'll have a great time.

Of course, the only tip I learned from her is:

Don't pee in public, or they'll stick a picture of you on the front page of the newspaper.

So, at least you have that...

No peeing in public. Check.

What an awesome opportunity to teach in Singapore for two years. Had she been there before committing to the two years? The reason I ask is that there is an opportunity to stay in Singapore for one year - but I can't imagine making that drastic of a commitment.

Does your sister have any sight-seeing ideas? Tips besides the peeing?

Don't chew gum. (that's Singapore, isn't it?)

Have a great trip. Don't worry about Much. We'll take care of her while you're away.

Oh no don't chew gum. I think an english schoolboy got beaten for chewing gum...or maybe dropping it on the pavement/sidewalk.

Oh god, and I just gave her some gum as a present. (Yes, I said gum. 2 flavors actually. Bubblemint AKA Best Gum Ever and Dentyne FIRE!)

AkkK, now she'll be locked away forever, like in that Clare Danes movie and I don't think they have the internet in those prisons. Clare didn't. She had like.....a bamboo mat.

DON'T GO CRASH! or at the very least DON'T TAKE THE GUM!

Ah, no worries. The Bubblemint and the FIRE! are all gone - they were very helpful in saving my sanity over the past three weeks. I am now a gum-convert. But, sounds like I should icksnay on the ubblegamyay.

So, no gum. No peeing.

Do you think the breath mints are safe??
