Another Revolting Development

So, I returned home from yet another business trip (Denver this time) and found that the dreaded Hurricane Katrina is projected to hit New Orleans...directly. This is always a disturbing thought. A hurricane is bad enough, but New Orleans is below sea level. Water is more concerning to us than the wind force ( Read more... )

Thanks for the good wishes (and crossed fingers)!

I'm at my brother's house and all we can do is sit and wait...and eat comfort food.

Thanks - I know lots of folks in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia are just as likely to feel the effects as well. It looks to be a large storm and the circumference is growing by the hour. Here's hoping it fizzles out or loops back towards the sea!

This one really came out of nowhere. We (in FL) were just vaguely told about a tropical storm and then suddenly Thursday PM everything changed and she suddenly had her identity and was headed for us. Great. After last year, just what we needed! Of course we got lucky and she harassed people further south and we just had power issues and minimal flooding and tree damage. Man, what a bizarre path this storm took between the Bahamas and here. Drink much?

I know they're saying New Orleans, but they had no clue at all what was going to happen here either. You are right to be concerned because of being below sea level and the ocean and the river. As someone who had way too much fun with these last year, good luck, be safe and I hope you like peanut butter.

I'll be crossing everything for you, but give us a holler too!!!!!

Oh, I was feeling really sorry for you guys over in Florida. You all have had the worst run of luck for the past two years! And here we've been thankful to have been spared for so long.

We had a nasty experience with Cindy earlier this summer, but Katrina is looking downright awful. The storm is growing in size by the hour. It's downright scary. The National Weather Service says that this is the storm we (New Orleans) have been dreading for years. I'm just hoping that it's a shoo-shoo.

...and while I do like peanut butter, it's not something I want to live off of for too long. Here's hoping the power isn't out for too long!

I am taking pins out of all the voodoo dolls and using my powers for good instead of evil. Let's hope I have actual powers! For once I'd like to see media hype for no reason and I wouldn't even complain if Katrina somehow fizzled or made landfall on some sort of "Gilligan's Island!" Right now I'll just hope you aren't in the line of fire, on the wrong side of the storm, or that she doesn't pull a Frances or a Jeanne and grind to a halt for hours. Don't eat any peanut butter until it's crunch time. I know, really bad pun!

Be safe and stay in touch any way you can.

I heard about it on the news tonight and thought of you. Keep safe and dry. And hope everyone comes out of this safe and unscathed.

Thanks! I'm hoping it passes over without too much damage. I'm actually hoping that it doesn't pass over us, but I don't think it will. It's supposed to make landfall on Monday.

Yeah, I was just listening again... it looks like it's really going to happen. But these storms are unpredictable, so you never know.

Wow, she's a category 5! I hadn't realized she'd gotten so big. Best wishes, crashcmb. Stay as dry as possible. Even up here in North Georgia we're supposed to get a significant amount of rain, just from the edges of Katrina.

Gah! I woke up and it's now a Category 6!

Fortunately, the rest of my family have left the city as well. I've heard from all and everyone is in Baton Rouge, except for my nephew and his wife, but at least they are on the road, just stuck in the traffic.

Needless to say, it doesn't look good for New Orleans and the surrounding area.

I'll keep checking in as long as there is power...
