As I was walking back to my car after the movie last night, I heard a guy tell his friends how did not want to go to work the next day because he didn't like his job. I don't remember his exact words, but it was phrased in a very 20-Something kind of way that I remember using when I was in that place in my life ( Read more... )

I have a lot of trouble with the question of what are legitimate expectations for a job. It seems like both "your work should express who you are, make the world a better place, and provide you with a good living, and you'll never perform well if you're doing work that doesn't fit with who you are" and "work isn't supposed to be fun, that's why they pay you for it, and if you don't work hard and long and put your job ahead of everything else in your life, you're a slacker and a parasite" are both current in our culture.
