Oh gosh your ratty babies are so cute! :) Congrats on them, they look very happy and vibrant too. ^__^ The sweet little baby at the front looks just like our new baby dumbo, Momo. Hopefully we'll be lucky enough to have a hairless ratty someday too!
Yep, she was genetically hairless :) And that's Eva in front, she was insanely sweet and I owned her before she was born! (Eight was her momma;whom I acquired pregnant)
Both girls passed last week along with Sushi, the siamese in the back next to the one in the corner. :( At least they were old; Eva was very ill but she didn't want to let go. They're very strong :)
Actually only 3 rats in this pic are still alive-they don't live long enough!
Neither do mice. I had five mice, Charlie and his four sons. Charlie was killed(my fostered Greyhound got him)so I dont know how long he might have lived given a chance, but his four sons all died very quickly, one after the other, about six months after Charlie?
Turtle and Spud died within about 2 days of each other. Spot-Stripe lasted about a month after that and the last to go was The Nameless One! I was told mice lived for about 3 years but mine were only about a year old.
The vet who put Nameless One to sleep couldnt tell me why they died.
They were all sleek and shiny, bright eyes, active...then suddenly one by one they became lethargic and dull. I know there was something in their environment that made them sick but I could never ascertain what. They all got buried in toilet roll coffins in the front yard. Was very sad.
I hear rats only live to about 5 years? Its so sad when they pass so quickly.
No, rats only live 2-3 years. Some are very old by 1.5 even, it's just genetics. Same with mice I imagine, because they are mass bred randomly for food. Messes up the genes!
Hazel is 3 years old and showing his age a bit. He would be dead if he was in the wild. He's lost the use of his back legs (HED common in males) but other than that he's still happy with bright eyes, etc
The ones that passed this year were all over 2, closer to 2.5. But a lot of them had infections and became ill because their immune systems just couldn't functions like before. Lots of tumors too :(
Eight died in her sleep though, at 2 years and 4 months. I hope the rest go like that ;P Unlikely, but I can hope! lol

I really like the champagne and white coloured rat near the front.
