Into the Basement

Warning: very slight gore & horror

It had been a rule for as long as Alice could remember. You don't go into the basement, the first step is gone, and it is not a place for little girls to play. Alice had always wondered why her parents never fixed the step. She even asked her mother once, who just mumbled something about it just breaking again.

The basement door always remained locked. According to Alice's father there was nothing down there, so it didn't matter if the door was locked or not. It really just never made sense to Alice. Why didn't they just fix the stair and use the basement for something, anything at all.

As Alice grew she never stopped thinking about the basement, she had attempted to slip in once or twice, but she had always been caught and yelled at that she would injure herself on the stairs.

Alice was patient though, one day she would be old enough to be left alone, and then she would finally find out what was down there.

Shortly after she turned fourteen her parents decided that Alice could be trusted without a babysitter. The moment Alice was positive that she was alone she rushed to where the extra keys were and ran to unlock the basement door. Alice dug a flashlight out of a kitchen drawer and she was ready to find out what was happening downstairs.

Alice looked at the first step down, it really was a bit of a stretch to make it, but she was finally here and wasn't turning back, hopefully the second step wouldn't break. She stretched her leg down into the darkness trying to delicately test the step as it creaked and bent under her foot. Deciding it was safe she put all her weight on it and continued down the ancient sounding stairs.

As she reached the bottom Alice shown her flashlight around the room trying to see anything. The walls all looked bare and there didn't seem to be a single object in the area. She took a couple of steps further in only to suddenly feel her legs get swept out from underneath her and land in a pool of something wet and sticky.

Turning the light towards the floor Alice saw she had to be in a pile of what looked to be blood, then the sound of clicking began to echo around the room. Her heart began to race and she quickly flicked the light every direction trying to see anything that could of possibly caused the noise and she scooted back through the blood trying to make her way to the stairs.

Alice did not make it far before several sharp claws sliced into her sides ripping her back towards a hard, warm wall.

“I see I get an extra treat today.” something growled lowly into her ears.

Alice had no response but to scream, tears begging to fall from the pain she was in. Alice didn't understand. What was this creature, why was it in her basement, why had she come down here?

Alice didn't have long to think though, as the creature made quick work of ripping her apart splattering more blood through the room as it fed upon her.

Hours later after the creature had long since finished it's treat it heard a cry from up the stairs into the other world. It wondered what had it's mother so terribly upset, but that didn't matter. It had been very good today, for momma had given it an extra treat.
