As others noted, this was heartbreaking. But at least you were there for her as much as she'd accept. I'd like to think that means something.

This reminded me of when I was in my teens I had to go to some counseling and when the counselor, who was in his 20s, saw that I didn't feel like talking, we'd go to the arcade and play video games for a while. Just that bit of no-stress shared time helped me a lot more than I realized. But it looks like Sara needed more.
