I watched Extreme Rules last night and I have thoughts and opinions.
Except not really about the first match, Jericho and Fandango because I picked a bad feed at first and I didn't get to see much of anything. But Jericho won and that's good.
I did get to watch Kofi and Ambrose. I was looking forward to that match and those boys fucking delivered. Holy cow. I'm still wishy washy about The Shield getting singles gold, but I'm gonna try to deal with it.
The strap match with Sheamus and Mark Henry was short. I feel like there was a lot of potential there and it got lost in some apparent time issues (seeing as how Kaitlyn and AJ were taken off the card). Too bad, really, because I've enjoyed this little feud, those two guys are hilarious. The part of the match with Sheamus tapping the posts from Henry's shoulder had me cracking up. I believe Sheamus won, yeah.
The Del Rio and Swagger match is where WWE basically shit all over my life. It was a good match, Del Rio and Swagger were entertaining me with they skillz, and then ... what? Ricardo has the power to speak for Del Rio and quit the match for him??? My mind, it was blown. It's not even the instant replay that gets me (I mean, that's stupid too) but the fact that Ricardo could quit for Del Rio. And then, if Ricardo is allowed to quit with a fucking white towel for Del Rio, why isn't that rule applied to Zeb and Swagger? If the ref sees on replay that Zeb threw in the white towel, why isn't Swagger losing the match there? Why does it have to be restarted to have some lackluster finish? That bit was a heaping pile of bullshit.
And just to aggravate me further, I really wanted and expected that match to have an inconclusive finish so that triple threat ladder match could still happen upon Ziggler's return. But no. No, instead, the inconclusive finish goes to the Cena/Ryback match for no good reason.
I'm not all up in arms about Charlie Robinson not being able to reach them and count to 10 or whatever, but I am all up in arms about this feud continuing and there being no clear winner and the probability that Cena won't even be selling his dramatic spinal injury tonight on RAW. But up until the disappointing finish, I was enjoying the match. Once it was out of the ring and they were doing stuff around the arena, it wasn't so bad.
Team Hell No and The Shield put on a pretty decent match too. Both of those teams work so well together. I'm all for putting the tag titles on The Shield, but I am still pretty sad it had to come at Kane's expense. One of my favoritest dudes in wrestling, I love watching him, and it's amazing he's still doing what he's doing at his age and size. So mostly I'm just sad Kane's title-less again. But maybe Team Hell No will be falling apart now and Kane can be a heel??
Speaking of heels and my affinity for them. I learned last night that my love for heels exceeds my love for Triple H. Hunter is quite possibly my favorite wrestler ever, and I found myself rooting against him last night. I was 100% for Brock Lesnar. And Lesnar won, which I liked, but it was a weird fucking match. It felt like Triple H buried him, the match was alllllll Triple H, and then IDK, Lesnar hits him with the sledgehammer and F-5s him and that's it. It felt kinda off. It also felt off because it was a cage match only in name.
I've always had this thing about cage matches ending in pinfall or submission. I only consider those won by escape to be real cage matches. So Lesnar getting the pin was disappointing in that sense. And then, there wasn't all that much brutality. Is this because I jumped from the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression time period to now with nothing in between? There were buckets of blood the last time I saw a steel enclosure and now not a drop. Or is it because the last time I saw a steel enclosure both Triple H and Lesnar were in their prime? Or because Triple H kinda stinks as a face? Or what?
I enjoyed Lesnar's selling that knee injury. But I mostly came out of that match disappointed.
All in all I enjoyed the show, just glad I'm enough of an asshole to not shell out $40 for it, good lord, I would've hated it if I'd paid for it. Hope the build-up to Payback (what the hell is Payback? This was King of the Ring time when I was a kid) is a good trip.
